The summer of my life

Chapter 2

The sun is closing towards dawn and the sky seems to be painted in crimson colors. Shadows sneak around the ground spreading fear around.

Alexis and I are standing on a chair in the garden and we admire in silence the nature. Alexis breaks the silence.

"How do you think our lives would look if we were to live in a movie?"

"Depending on the movie. You don't think about something like Twilight or The Vampire Diaries, right? I mean, you can't possibly think that you will wake up with Damon or Stefan Salvatore at the door wanting for you two to run happily towards sunset." I say in a sarcastic voice and Lexi starts laughing.

"You'll never know...but i was actually thinking about other kind of movies...

"What...?Anime?"

"Hey! Don't laugh at me! It's not my fault that I prefer to stay in the safe and fictional world of anime in which I don't need to see real people."

"No shit..." I say rolling my eyes.

"Anyway...this is what friends are for. To take you out of your own world and bring you to the real one. So...guess what?"

"What?" She asks a little concerned.

"Well...you see...knowing that here we don't have internet...I took the liberty to bring some movies...actually, an entire series of about 4 seasons...

"No way... Don't tell me that you..."

"Hell yeah!"

"Crap! No no no!"

"Yeah! Teen Wolf...here we come!"

The silence dominates again and after a few moments Alexis says:

"Anyway...we don't have a laptop to see it on..."

"Sorry to disappoint you but I brought mine."

"Aaaah! C'mon you really don't want me to get a good night sleep!"

"That's exactly what I don't want. But I already told you that seasons 1, 2, 3 and 4 are not that scary. If brought season 5, then we both would have had a problem."

Alexis makes a desperate face and I laugh out loud.

"Let's get into the house. Tomorrow I have to take you meet someone."

"Okay... Who?"

"You'll see."

We enter the house and go to our room. Inevitably, Kim is already waiting for us.

"Guys, grandma said that by the day after tomorrow Daniel arrives."
I watch Lexi with a questioningly air.

"Daniel is my cousin."

"Okay...and how old is he?"

"I'm not sure but I think he's 20."

"Congratulations! You have no idea how old is your cousin!

"Like you do!"

"Amma...one of my cousins has..."

"See?"

"Anyways, what is your cousin going to do here? I mean isn't he going to be bored?"

"I don't know..."

There is silence between us again when Alexis, as usual, interrupts it.

"Okay, Kim. Thanks for the announcement. You can go now."

"But I want to stay with you ..."

"Kim, we are bigger than you and you have to understand that once. Jasmine came to stay with me, not you. We are not your babysitters. Learn to play alone. You have an iPad, TV and tons of toys. Now, we want to watch a film.."

"But ... I want to watch it too ..."

"Kim ... I do not want to upset you or anything, but this movie is not really for kids, I add with a sheepish tone."

"Mmmmm ..." she says while making a beggar puppy face.

"Kim, you're old enough to understand. When we can, we stay with you, but let us alone now ..."

Kim turns on her heels and leaves the room with a disappointed face.

"Everything okay?" I ask Alexis.

"Yeah ... Anyway, what do we do now?"

"Well, let's watch Teen Wolf cause I didn't brought it here for nothing, right?

"Okay."

I start the laptop and begin to watch the first episode. During it, I feel Alexis flinching some times and I smile.

"What do you think, Lex?" I ask at the end of the film.

"It was awesome!"she says. "When do we see the next episode?"

"After dinner." I answer with a big smile.

We get out of the bed and go to the kitchen. There, Alexis grandmother prepared us the dinner. After we ate, we went back in the room and we watched other 4 episodes which took us enough time, that when I looked at my phone it was about 3 o'clock in the morning.

"Let's go to sleep. Tomorrow you have to meet 2 persons."

"2?! The heck?"I say shocked.

"Chill, Jas! You will see tomorrow" Alexis says smiling.

"Oh please, you know I hate it when you're so secretive with me ... "I say, then make a beggar puppy face.

"Life sucks!" she answers and sticks her tongue at me.

"Okay ... If you want to play dirty, let's play dirty" I say and throw myself on her.

She fights back taking a pillow and starting to hit me. A 17 year old children game, what can I say. I was unable to stop her because she had the pillow, so I took the blanket and throw myself again on her like a rugby player wrapping her and her pillow completely in the blanket. Finally I sit down onto the bundle I made.

" Do you give up?" I ask her, superiority read on my face.

I do not even get to finish my question when I wake up on the floor, and Alexis sits on the bed with the blanket I used to wrap her and the pillow, around her. We stayed in silences a few seconds, then we both start to laugh hysterically . Our room door bursts open and Alexis' grandmas enter.

"Alexis, Jasmine, what happened here?" one of the grandmothers asks.

"Nothing. We're okay." Lexi responds a bit confused.

"Okay?" I ask sarcastic, as usual.

"Are you sure that you are okay? And you, Jasmine, what are you doing on the floor?"

"Well ... It's a long story" I say as confused as Alexis.

"Come on, go to sleep!" The other grandma says.

"Good luck with that." Lexi says turning her head in the opposite direction so that only I could hear what she said, so I smile.

"Okay" we say in chorus."Sleep well!"

"Good night, girls!"

I shake myself to get the possible dust down and get into the bed next to Alexis.

"Well, it was a freakin' awesome fight! " I say while laughing.

"Be sure it is not over" Alexis responds with an evil smirk.

I pull the blanket on me and drift asleep. Our first day is done ... but tomorrow I expect something new.
