A long time back,
When colours were a blur,
And voices just a buzz,
Rhythm to me was your heart beat.

A long time back,
When nothing else registered,
All that mattered,
Was you and your smile.

A long time back,
When words of sense failed me,
And expression not my forte,
You alone had been my voice.

A long time back,
When my feet were not as sure,
And walking without falling impossible,
You were forever my support.

The years all added up,
And I grew up,
Under your ever lingering shadow,
My expressions were now colourful dreams,
I now flew high like a kite,
And you had the end of my string.

Today I'm eighteen,
My string was cut loose,
And suddenly I'm all by myself,
In a world of other such kites,
Experiencing like me the,
White clouds of serenity,
And black clouds of storm.

And again colours are a blur,
The voices just a buzz,
And though this time,
I hear no heart beat of yours,
It is enough to know,
That it beats for me.

And everytime I close my eyes,
Your smile is all I see,
And because it is all that matters,
I'll do anything to keep it there.
