Scars

They check your wrists
They check your thighs
When they see nothing
They believe your lies

What they can't see
Are the scars in your heart
Though they aren't visible
They tear you apart

Sure, they can't kill you
They aren't real, right?
But those are the deepest scars
Cut late at night

Before you pick it up
The blade that is your mind
Remember the love
That someday you will find

I know the wait hurts
It gets harder every day
But soon you will see
This won't always be the way

I can tell you now
Trust me, I know
Sometime in the future
Your happiness will grow

You will look at the scars
And remember why
And notice through everything
You somehow got by
