"He was like an angel."

~Troye~

You could hear the music blasting from all the way down the street and the closer you got, the more people you could see passed out on the front lawn. Now, I know that I've never actually been to a party before, but I didn't think it would be so much like the movies. That thought was actually kind of worrying considering house parties in the movies always ended with the police showing up or someone jumping off the roof. Neither very good outcomes.

"Come on, Troye. It's going to be fun, I promise," my friend Zoe said gently as she squeezed my hand reassuringly. "I wouldn't make you do this unless I knew you would have a good time."

We've been sitting in Zoe's car for the past five minutes, her waiting patiently for me to work up the courage to get out. It wasn't that I was scared. I was just a little nervous about what was going to happen. Would they force me to drink or do drugs? Was someone going to slip something in my drink and kill me?

Alright, maybe I've seen too many movies.

"Let's go," I said, nodding my head and exiting the car. Zoe squealed in delight, racing out of the car and up to me. Hooking her elbow with mine, she began skipping towards the front door of the shaking house, dragging me along with her.

Right when we walked inside, doubt spread inside of me like wildfire. There were people dancing, more like dry humping, in the center of the living room and a group of half-naked girls were standing on a table with their glasses raised. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea.

Zoe read the doubt on my face and squeezed my arm tighter. "Breathe, Troye. Let's go get a drink." I followed her into the almost empty kitchen and watched as she pulled two coke cans out of the fridge. "Is this good?"

"Yeah, thank you." I looked around once more and suddenly everything seemed... less like a forest full of wild animals and more like a large group of high schoolers having a good night. Maybe all I needed to do was relax and enjoy myself. That was easy enough, right?

~~~
Apparently I was wrong because half an hour later I was still standing in the kitchen with a half-drunk can of soda in my sweaty hand, watching Zoe and her boyfriend Alfie dance on the outside of the growing living room circle. It wasn't that I was completely friendless; I had my own group of friends, however Zoe and Alfie were the only ones at this party and I didn't want to keep them from having fun.
I was knocked out of my thought bubble when someone crashed into me, knocking the can out of my hand. It fell to the ground, as did I, and landed right next to me. Sighing angrily when I felt the cool liquid seep into my jeans, I hung my head back and muttered a couple cuss words to myself. Of course this would happen to me.
"Watch it, loser."
I looked up and saw Caspar Lee hovering over me with a sinister smile on his face. I cringed, immediately looking away from the six foot tall bully. He was the most popular guy in our school, and the guy most people feared, even his friends. He normally left me alone but tonight, considering how drunk he looked, he would probably do just about anything and not regret it in the morning.
It took him a second but he eventually sauntered out of the kitchen and into the living room, going up to a random girl and dancing behind her. I rolled my eyes and was about to get up when a hand was suddenly in front of my face.
"I'm so sorry about that. Caspar's just a little drunk."
There he was: the hottest guy in school, not that I would ever tell anyone that, and Caspar's right hand man. Tyler Oakley, as far as I could tell from the outside looking in, was an extremely fun and caring person. Even though his best friend was the devil's spawn, he stood up to him and talked him down when he was ready to do something bad. He was like an angel compared to Caspar. An angel that I've, very embarrassingly, had a crush on for the past three years. And now he was talking to me. No, more than that: he was waiting for me to grab his hand.
