Brikena's Pov.

Hi, my name is Brikena Smith. Brikena is a very unusual name, but I don't really mind it. Brikena, is pronounced like Bri-kay-nah.

I am sixteen years old and currently finishing my last year of high school.

I was peacefully dreaming about being turned into a vampire by Edward Cullen, when

"BRIKENA!"

"SHUT UP!" I yelled at the voice, turning to my front, I grabbed the ends of my pillow and pulled them up to block my ears.

"Come on, Bri, get up!" My mom's muffled voice flooded my ears through my pillow.

"Mom, leave me alone!" I groaned, closing my eyes and trying to slip back into my dream.

"Get up, now young lady!" My mom ordered sternly, ripping the warm covers off of me.

"Ugh!" I growled, jolting up as the warmth of the covers was replaced by cold, nipping at my exposed arms and legs because of my shorts and tank top.

"Bri, you've got school!" My mother began. "Get up! Up up up up!"

"I'm getting up. I'm getting up, jeez."

My mom sighed exasperatedly and left my room.

I ruffled my bedhead hair and frowned, slowly getting out of my bed and padding over to my bathroom.

I frowned again and turned on my shower, listening to the water spray powerfully, I stripped and stepped into it.

I locked my white BMW and slipped the keys into my black leather handbag when I got to school.

"Brik, hi!" My friend Tina waved, knowing I wasn't one for hugs.

"Hey, Tina." I nodded, as I fell into step with her.

"Where are we going?" I asked, as we stepped away from the school.

"To the field," Tina began, picking up her pace. "School doesn't start for another twenty minutes."

I nodded and collapsed onto the ground, underneath a big oak tree.

"So, what's your first lesson?" Tina asked, trying to start a conversation.

"Child and Social care. What's yours?" I answered.

"Travel and Tourism." Tina pulled a handful of grass out of the ground and then sprinkled them back on the floor again.

We settled into an awkward silence none of us bothering to strike up another pointless conversation.

"Hi Bri!" My other friend Keiran, walked up to me and Tina.

We both looked up and waved at him as he sat down next us.

"How are you girls?" He asked us.

"Fine." We replied simultaneously.

"Cool," Keiran nodded. "Bri, how's your brother?"

"Danny's OK." I shrugged. "Haven't seen him in days though, my mom's going crazy."

This perked Tina's attention, she's had a crush on my older brother ever since I can remember.

"Why? Where is he?" She asked, her cheeks flushing a light pink.

"Danny went to a party a few days ago, he didn't tell mom where he was going or when he'd come back," I began. "Long story short, he hasn't come back yet. My mom doesn't want to phone the police because she doesn't trust them to find him."

I finished and looked at Tina. She looked shell-shocked her jaw was hanging open.

"Close your mouth Tina," I smirked, changing the subject. "You might catch flies."

Tina flushed again and abruptly closed her mouth.

"So, what are you going to do about it then?" Tina asked a little desperately.

I looked at her weirdly but shrugged, copying her earlier actions by pulling blades of grass out of the ground.

"I dunno." I began. "My mom's freaking out though. She can't do much as she has to look after my baby sister."

Keiran and Tina nodded in understanding, but I knew they didn't. No one does.

The bell for form time rang and I got up, dusting off my black skinny jeans.

I pulled Tina up and waved goodbye as each of us parted ways.

I jogged over to my form class as it was on the other side of the school.

I was still late though.

I opened the door and everyone's gaze landed on me as I walked to the back of the classroom and collapsed onto the hard seat.

"Miss Smith, you're late." The form tutor Mr. Reynolds stated the obvious.

"I know, Sir." I smirked folding my arms across my chest and putting my feet on the grafittied desk.

Mr. Reynolds sighed but let it go knowing he wouldn't win this one.

"Oh my Goodness Brikena, I was getting so worried, it took you two hours to get home!" My mother's exhausted figure appeared before me as I closed the front door.

"Sorry mom." I yelled over my little sister- Isabella-'s wailing.

My mom nodded sighing, she, continued to try to get Isabella to fall asleep but to no avail.

I sat down at the kitchen table and watched my mom pacing up and down the hallway with a now purple faced one year old.

Suddenly I heard the front door open again, I frowned, who could it be? No body else had a key to our house except my dad and he had walked out on us many years ago, ane I don't think he was coming back now.

I heard my mother gasp and I ran to the hallway. I gasped in shock aswell, seeing a very angry looking Danny.

"D-Danny, where have you been all this time? You have NO idea how worried I have been!" My mom screamed

"You don't need to know!" Danny spat at her.

"I'm your mother Danny!" My mom screeched. "Of course I need to know!"

"Who are you trying to kid?!" Danny demanded. "You're not my mother!"

My mom breathed a shaky breath of surprise and I decided I needed to interfere.

"Who. The. Hell. Do. You. Think. You. Are?" I demanded. "Talking to mom like that?!"

Danny's gaze locked onto me.

"Addy, we're adopted."

We're adopted.

We're adopted.

We're adopted.

Those words kept replaying in my mind so much that I didn't notice that he had called me "Addy" and not "Brikena".
