Brikena's Pov.
"Adopted?" I croaked.
Danny nodded, not saying a thing.
"W-w-w-w- how?" My voice sounded much more braver than I felt.
My mom bowed her head, Isabella still wailing in her arms.
"Y-Your mother," My mom began, or should I say my adopted mom. "Your r-real mother, sh-she p-passed away d-due to lung cancer."
"W-Why? What caused it?" I breathed, my eyes boring into the top of my adopted mother's head.
"Smoking, Adalynn."
I gasped, my hand flying to my mouth.
"She used to smoke, Addy." Keri- my adopted mother- continued.
"Why is everyone calling me "Addy" or "Adalynn" today?" I demanded.
"T-That was your name. Before I changed it into Brikena." Keri mumbled.
"Why did you change it?" I furrowed my eyebrows, now more interested in this.
"Brikena was your mom's name." Keri whispered.
"So, what's Danny's name then?" I joked, not really expecting an answer.
"Aidan." She stated.
I looked at Danny, he didn't really seen fazed, but I guess he knew about this some time before.
"Are me and Dan-Aidan actually related? Is Isabella someone else's child aswell? And why did you adopt us?" I blurted out in a hurry.
"You and Aidan are full blooded brother and sister. No, Isabella is my child and I adopted you because that was your mother's wish."
"Do I have a father out there somewhere?" I let out a laugh of hysteria.
"Yes," Keri nodded.
At this point, I should have been surprised, but nothing could surprise me anymore.
"Where?" Aidan suddenly asked.
"He didn't want anything to do with you two." Keri's eyes brimmed with tears. "He left your mom when she was pregnant with Addy."
"Brikena." I said firmly.
"Didn't he love me enough to stay?" Aidan asked, his voice breaking. The Aidan I knew never ever cried.
"Oh Aidan." Keri breathed, reaching out to pull Aidan into a hug, Isabella had now stopped crying, but had started to suck her thumb.
"No!" Aidan nearly yelled. "Don't touch me."
Keri stopped in her tracks and cuddled Isabella closer to her in need.
"Anyway, I only came here to get Addy."
"Brikena!" I sighed. "And take me where?"
"Away from here."
"Why? This has been my home pretty much all my life!" I began. "I don't care that we're adopted. We're still related to Keri, she's the only 'family' we've got Aidan!"
"Addy, you know I'd love for you to stay, but I think you should listen to your brother. He knows what's best for you. You're both more than welcome at my house ANY time though!" Keri advised me.
"How does he know what's best for me when I'm never given a choice?! I demanded. "No one seems to care about my opinion!"
Aidan's face softened.
"Please come with me, Addy." He pleaded.
"It's Brikena! And it's not that easy, Aidan." I whispered, shaking my head.
"We'll get through this!" Aidan assured me. "Just please come."
I looked at Aidan's face and gave in.
"OK," I sighed. "I'll come, just let me pack."
Aidan sighed in relief and nodded.
I ran up the stairs and to my room, well, my now old room.
I grabbed a few suitcases and opened my wardrobe, stuffing everything in and then moving to my accessories and everyday items.
*
"Okay, I'm done." I announced almost two hours later.
I picked up my two huge suitcase and carried them down the stairs.
"Here." Aidan offered to carry a suitcase but I gave him both of them because I'm special.
He laughed and loaded all our stuff into his big truck.
Then, it was time to say goodbye.
I hugged Keri.
"Goodbye, Addy." She sobbed, pulling me close to her.
I patted her on the back awkwardly.
"Goodbye, mom." I whispered.
I then bent down to hug Isabella.
"Be good for your mom." I whispered to her.
"Addy!" Aidan called.
I looked back at him and mumbled an "I'm coming".
"Don't get in trouble as much as I did. Your mother doesn't deserve that." I kissed her cheek and got up, jogging over to Aidan.
"You ready?" He asked when we had gotten into the truck and buckled our seatbelts.
"As ready as I'll ever be."
