9 years later........
"Katrina!!!!" I hear Lucy shout from downstairs.
"Im up!!!" I shout back. She raised me single handedly since i was 8, a year after she married father, while her was serving in war. He came home last night. I attempted to stay up for his arrival but had fallen asleep. I put on my dressing gown and some slippers before racing down the spiral stair case. "Father?" I ask looking around
"He's still asleep. He didn't get home until 2 in the morning." Lucy says shaking her head laughing lightly. "Hungry?" She asks and my stomach rumbles. We both laugh and i nod. It had taken me some time to warm up to Lucy but we became best friends. I still haven't found the strength to call her anything but Stepmother or Lucy. Mother was too strong of a word for me.
I eat my food in silence. Lucy comes in with the mail. "Anything for me?" I ask after swallowing my mouth full of food. She nods and hands me a letter from my aunt Marge, a package with a shirt i ordered online, and my Seventeen magazine. I grab the newspaper and take the comic strip out of it. "Bullshit." I mutter
"Whats wrong?" Lucy asks worriedly
"They are taking The Peanuts out of the comic page!!!!!" I say angrily
"What?!" She says just as angry. One of the things we bonded over was The Peanuts. You know, Charlie Brown and Snoopy? We both loved them and loved reading the comic strips in the paper. "Okay marathon time" She claps her head and i nod taking one last bite of toast before going into the parlor grabbing our scrapbook of Peanuts comic strips. We always had random Peanuts marathons where we would re-read all the strips then watch all the movies and shows. Lucy comes in with a giant bowl of popcorn, two cups, plus a liter of soda.
"Whats this? Its 9 in the morning." Father says sneaking up on us
"Father!!!!" I grin wildly jumping up from the couch and running to him giving him a huge hug. He kisses the top of my head.
"Hey Kit Kat." He says before going and giving Lucy a hug along with a kiss "Hey Luc" he smiles "Wait dont tell me...." He groans seeing the scrapbook. When they first got married it was how Father got Lucy and i to hang out. He learned she likes Peanuts as much as i did so the Peanuts marathon tradition started.
"Yep." I smirk and make room for him on the couch
"Fineeeee." He laughs.
Lucy smiles holding his hand. I lean my head on his shoulder. Everything was perfect. Peaceful. Why couldn't it have come with a warning sign? All i know is that-
It would never be perfect again.
