A roar echo through the village, hidden in the depth of the forest.
My smile disappeared from my lips as I opened my eyes. People had been smiling but for one second that I blinked my eyes I now saw everyone standing still in terror, looking out from our home into the forest.
The sun felt cold as I swept away my red hair lock from my face, slowly rising up from my knees. I stroked my little sister beside me on her small head. I could feel her body shaking under my hand.
No one in the village made a sound, It was death quiet. Even the forest around us were holding its breath.
Medeli, my little sister turned slowly her beautiful green eyes up to mines. They where big and I could see her fear. Her hands were going white because she was holding her dress to hard.
"Be good now and go to Nada," I said in a calm and slow voice to make it sink through her fear. I turned her away from where the sound had come from and gave her a light push, making her start moving in the right direction.
When she was gone from my sight I looked around again and saw that most people hade disappeared from the road. They who still was there moved fast away.
Tonight everyone was going to stay inside. Sitting together with their family and hoping that what the hear today was nothing but a dream.
I tried to shake of the bad feeling I'd got, but the goosebumps wouldn't leave my body. I have better thing to do then standing here, I started to walk with firm steps towards the direction the sound had come from.
Before the end of the city I found one of my men standing with his bow ready to fire at enemies that would show up. He looked tensed but seemed reliveved when he looke towards my direction. He hurry to meet me half way.
"Captain," he said and gave me a node and looked fast behind me. "I see that Darri weren't abel to find you. I sent a report with him."
"No, I came here as fast as I heard the sound." I node back and took a looked at him. He wore the leaf village uniform, showing that his rank was as a tracker. The green uniform provide them with the ability to blend in to the forest around us. A small symbol of our people was embroidered on his left side with silver stitches, closes to the heart. I know this man as Emerdail.
"Then I will report to you now captain." Emerdail pulled out a sealed globe made of glass with translucent liquid. It was not bigger then a acorn. Nothing special, maybe for one of the villager but for us guards this was something everyone was carring. Mine was still at my room fixed on my captain belt.
I was going to ask him what about it when the sun shined on the glass. For a fast second I saw a orange reflection on the glass surface. I grabed the globe from Emerdail and looked closer at it.
"How far away was the roar?" I asked still looking at the drop swiming around in the translucent liquid with the same color as my eyes. It was still to small and it would be hard to notice it if you didn't look close on the globe.
"I can't say exactly. But not many days away."
"Good." I threw back the globe to him and turned away back in to the city.
