Chapter 1: The Good News (part 1)

The conversations of the characters are a mixture of English, Japanese and Korean. So for the sake of some readers who don't understand Japanese and Korean, I provided a translation of it. But if the word/s is/are already translated, I will not translate it anymore. So you have to remember its meaning/translation. ^___^v this is also a way for some of the readers to learn some of the Japanese and Korean words, phrases or sentences. And in case I have a reader that is not familiar with Big Bang's songs, then I will also state the title of it.

Yuki's POV

*San Francisco, California

"nan ni gomagui sungyeoreul ppaetji igeon neoreul yuhokhaneun meseji Turn it up loud Turn it up loud" [Turn it up - TOP]

I was humming to the tune of "Blue" when my phone rang.

I looked at the screen to check who was calling. It was my mom.

I immediately answered it.

"Okasaan! Doko ni?" I asked her. [Okasaan=Mom; Doko ni?=Where are you?]

"We're already here at the airport. I just called to inform you that we are about to get inside the plane." She answered.

"Oh! Arasso. Take care okasaan! And say my greetings to appa. I'll be waiting for you at the airport." [Arasso=Okay/I understand; Appa=Daddy]

"Hai hai musume. Bye now. Ja ne!" and she hung up. [Hai=Yes; Musume=Daughter ; Ja ne= see you later/bye]

Tomorrow I'll be graduating (again) in my doctoral degree here at Stanford University and my parents are going to attend it. That is what I like the most in my parents. Even though they are so busy with our chain of businesses around the world, they always take time to attend special events of my life.

I was staring at the pictures of TOP on my wall while my speakers are playing "Oh Mom" when someone knocked on my door. I looked on the peephole to see who it was. It was my friends living next door. I opened the door.

"Ohayou senpai/ Annyeong unnie!" Miharu and Sung Gyu said in chorus while doing a cute pose. [Ohayou=Good morning; Senpai=Upper classman; Annyeong=Hello; Unnie=Sis]

"Ohayou kouhais!" I said and giggled because of their cuteness. "Come in!" I continued. [Kouhai=Lower classmen]

They are best friends taking Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. They're both 21. Miharu is Japanese and Sung Gyu is Korean. They are also graduating tomorrow. They call me 'senpai' because I'm 4 years ahead of them, in educational sense. Actually I'm just 2 years older than them. You may be wondering how I managed to finish my Masters and Doctors degree even though I'm still 23. Well, not to brag, but it's because of my high IQ.

"Unnie! Did you just bought another poster of TOP? The last time we came here it just covered the other side of the wall but now it almost covered all of it!" said Sung Gyu in amazement.

"Aniyo! Some of my VIP friends sent it together with Bigbang's Alive Concert in Seoul DVD as their graduation gift for me." I explained while getting foods for them. [aniyo = nope]

My walls are almost full with TOP's posters. Every time I look at his photo it somewhat gives me energy and I keep being inspired. And I tell you, my VIP friends are really sweet. They knew that I was so depressed when I haven't watched their concert since I was so busy with my dissertation that time. So when the concert DVD was out in the market, they bought it immediately together with lots of posters and sent it here in California.

"Sugoi! They're so kind! I hope my otaku friends will also send me graduation gifts. A Miku Hatsune cosplay outfit will do. (-__-)" -Miharu [Sugoi=Wow]

"Speaking of graduation, Omedetou gozaimasu senpai! ^____^" Miharu continued. [Omedetou gozaimasu=Congratulations]

Miharu loves anime while Sung Gyu loves K-Pop. I always wonder how these two got best friends. They are so opposite. I remembered the first time they met. They can't understand each other because Miharu speaks nihonggo and Sung Gyu speaks hanggul. It's a good thing I was there. I'm half Korean-half Japanese so I translated what they said to each other. It turned out they both actually know how to speak in English. I got relieved when they can talk to each other without my help. And then one day, they just became best of friends. Miharu is an otaku (anime lover), Sung Gyu is a K-popster and I am both an otaku and a k-popster. Even though we're not teens anymore, we always act like one. And I think that's our common denominator. It's also because of them why I mixed up hanggul and nihonggo all the time.

"Arigatou Miharu-chan. Congratulations for both of you, too!" [Arigatou=Thank You; -chan= (for example Miharu-chan) this is an informal title used for young female children, very close female friends or female family members]

"Arigatou senpai! ^____^v" -Miharu

"OMO! Unnie! I always envy you for having these lots of collection. You really bought every album of Big Bang!" Sung Gyu said while looking at my collections. But, I rather call it my treasures than collections. [OMO=Oh my! (expression)] I just smiled at her. Collecting Big Bang merchs is my one and only vice.

"So senpai, have you already chose among those job offers sent to you from famous companies?" Sung Gyu asked after a while

"Actually, I still haven't." I sighed. "Doishte senpai? You're so lucky! Both of us haven't received any job offers that will meet our standards yet." Miharu [Doishte=Why]

Almost all the graduating students of Stanford University receive a job offer before the graduation day. Most of the companies that send job offers are famous around the world.

"It's not that I'm not interested at them but I am just taking my time before choosing."

As if on cue, my phone rang.

"nan ni gomagui sungyeoreul ppaetji igeon neoreul yuhokhaneun meseji Turn it up loud Turn it up loud" [Turn it up -TOP]

I reached for it and answered the call.

"Hello." I said to the other line

"Hello Ms. Lee, this is the secretary of Mr. Xavier. He wants to see you here at his office immediately."

"Okay Ms. Maddison. I'll be there" I said and hung up.

"Girls, Mr. Xavier needs me at his office. Just make yourself at home okay?" I said to the girls.

"Hai senpai! Etto, can we watch movies while waiting for you?" -Miharu [Etto=Hmmmm]

"Of course!" I said

"What movies do you have here senpai?" -Miharu

"TOP's movies of course! Hahaha! I suggest you watch '71: Into the fire' first." I said while smiling widely

"Aish. I thought you have dramas of Park Yoochun, Jung Young Hwa, Kim Jae Joong, Lee Seung Gi, Song Jongki and Lee Min Ho. But anyway, I haven't watched any of TOP's movies and dramas yet, so I think I'll enjoy this. See you later unnie! ^_____^" -Sung Gyu

"I'm sure you'll love it! Bye girls!"
