When I originally wrote this short story, it was just supposed to be a vessel to get people to think before acting. I wanted to show various couples hooking up without first thinking about the consequences and then show the actual consequences of those deeds. I even attached morals of the story at the end of The Professor.
They are:
~ Never start a relationship off with sex.
~ Take the time to really get to know a person before becoming intimate with them. If you don’t, (as seen in this story) you can very well open your life up to minor things such has uncomfortable situations (Baron and Aurelia), to major things such as disease (Marquess and Raven) and unplanned pregnancies (Cain and Roxy).
~ The answer to a midlife crisis is not another man or woman (Duke and Sasha). It lies in you coming to grips with the fact that you’re getting older. So don’t just get older, get wiser, too.
I had no idea that The Professor would be such a hit among readers upon its release. In fact, after reading the short story, many were like, “What?! That can’t be the end!”
And yet it was.
After some intense prodding from readers and also a personal curiosity about what would happen in Aurelia and Baron’s lives after they saw each other again, I decided to expand the story. The Professor eventually expanded into a 90-chapter book.
