chapter one
He was in a strange place. A dark and mysterious place. He couldn't tell what was around him because of the bitter darkness.
He shivered. It was cold. Some kind of wind was blowing on him, cooling him down, but he didn't need it. He was already cool enough.
Suddenly, there was a light. A shocking light. He never had expected it.
It was strange. Darkness, then brightness. Just like that.
It seemed to have exploded out of nowhere. This scared him, but not for long, for it was beautiful.
At first it looked like an explosion, but then he realized that it wasn't. It was something else. Something different that he would never have even thought of seeing. His mind felt confused and he lost the picture in his head.
Although he couldn't remember what had just happened, he knew that it was a moment he would never forget.
What he saw was interrupted by a voice.
"Payton!" He heard a the voice of his mother calling.
He suddenly remembered school.
"Coming!" Payton jumped out of his bed in a flash.
This rarely happened, waking up late. I wasn't him usually. You see, he's a early riser, as they call them.
As he quickly changed from his pajamas into his jean shorts and his blue t-shirt he started to yawn.
Payton had woken up fast, causing his head to ache like it usually did.
He sat down on his bed. Payton rubbed his head where it hurt the most. He closed his eyes to, just for a few seconds, then took off.
He left his messy room and ran down the stairs, making a big and loud noise.
"Be quiet. Ivory's still sleeping." His mother called from the kitchen.
Ivory was his little sister. She was 9. Payton liked her, but she could sometimes become a nuisance.
"Sorry." He said as he entered the kitchen.
It was a fairly large kitchen. Everything was there that was needed in a kitchen.
A fridge (the modern ones, the ones that you could have a special space for every item, you just had to press a button, and there comes what you ordered. You could name the buttons and change them, so every drawer had it's own ingredient or item).
A dorshen (It's kind of like a mix between a toaster, a microwave and an oven, a dorshen.)
And a nice, long counter space. The clock hung on top of the convertible table.
Payton looked up at the clock.
6:37 am
He would have to rush, for he has to start walking to his bus stop at 7:00
Payton ran around the house, grabbing an already-made sandwich and a few snacks.
His lunches weren't that big, some people take huge meals at school, but Payton just took what he needed.
Payton snatched a breakfast drink from the fridge.
Breakfast drinks were like water, but you could change the taste anytime you wanted too just by pressing a button.
He had grabbed the fruit one, so he had the choice of blueberry pancake, orange juice and peach yogurt.
He ran out the static-opening door, and walked to the bus that was impatiently waiting for him in front of his house.
The school buses picked up around 5 people per stop since there were so many kids going to that same school.
Treleau Academy.
It was named after Nelson Treleau, the famous scientist who discovered the cure for the T-virus, a deadly disease that destroys human cells in the matter of hours.
Payton shivered as he remembered studying for health class.
The bus was big, probably the size of, well, the size changed, but usually about 15 meters long.
Payton always liked going on the bus, because his friend, Liv, was on the same bus.
Liv was a nice, but crazy girl. She had darker skin and always wore a headband, it didn't matter what color or pattern, whatever was her motto. Liv was mature in scientific matters, but in anything else, she wasn't really expert. To Payton, she was a good friend.
As he jumped onto the steps leading inside the bus, he heard the passengers talking and chatting with their friends.
Payton was one of the last people to go on the bus. after his, there were only three other stops.
He sat down beside Liv, who was patting the seat next to her, a sing telling him to sit down there.
So he did.
"So, how was your day off?" Liv asked him.
Payton thought for a minute.
"Fine, I guess. Like every day off." He said.
"Was it fun?" She said, poking his side.
Payton played along at first, but then remembered his week-end.
"Well, I'd rather not talk about it..." He managed to say with a small smile. But the smile soon changed into sadness.
"What's wrong?" Liv asked.
"Nothing. Just don't worry." He said, wiping a tear from his face.
"Well, if you just keep it to yourself you're..." Liv got interrupted by laughing. Payton was laughing.
"I was just kidding. I got you! I can't believe you fell for it!" He said laughing at the while.
"Really? Oh, Payton..." She said in a sigh, turning to look out the window.
Payton and Liv always did things like that to each other. It was a small game they played. Whoever 'falls for it' loses. It was simple, but it also took some skill to do it right.
They arrived at school soon enough. It only took about 10 minutes to get to the school from Payton's stop.
Liv walked of the bus and followed Payton their class.
They still had a few minutes before their bell rang, so they decided to find some other people to talk with.
Payton walked beside Liv across the school hallways.
He sighed. It wasn't a sad one though, he was sighing in relief because he had been almost sure that he would be late for class, but Payton was right on time.
He thought for a moment. What was that dream about?
Payton remembered the strange sight of...something. Something unusual. But at the same time, heart-warming. and beautiful.
As he day-dreamed, a loud sound came, followed by a vibration.
Liv turned around to face Payton with her tongue hanging out and a small frown.
"Time for class..." She said in a sigh.
Payton laughed.
But then he sighed too.
Class, again! He thought.
But, Payton didn't make a fight (although he did feel like it), he just rapidly walked to history class.
Boring! He thought.
