DAN HOWELL
After going back to sleep the previous night, I woke up with the familiar taste of copper and a stomach ache. There was dried blood on my hands, that was cracking and peeling off my skin. The flakes were spread on my white bedsheets. It was strange, I didn't know where the blood had come from. I ignored it, probably from the package last night.
It is still bothering me as I walk to the station. I didn't even touch the organ, not from what I remember. Did the demon put it on my hands?
"Winston, wait up." Drew yells from behind me. I turn to see him looking even more tired than before, his shirt was wrinkled and the bags under his eyes indicated his lack of sleep.
"Drew? Why are you late today?" I ask, the station's about a block away. He's usually there by 8:00 AM. However, I had to be there by 10:00 AM, I didn't even stay the whole day.
"My alarm didn't go off." He waves off, walking alongside me.
"You look tired. Are you okay?" I question, he rubs his eyes before answering.
"Yeah, I was just visiting my aunt's house yesterday and lost track of time." He sighs. We near the office and decide to leave the conversation at that.
Everyone at the station's quiet and the nervous vibe makes me uncomfortable. They probably heard about the recent case, it must have everyone suspicious. For me, it's just normal but the feeling of Anne returning made me feel scared yet hopeful.
"Office now." I look up and see Louise, she looks at Drew with a bit anger, possibly because he's late. He bows his head in shame and follows behind Louise.
"What happened?" I ask her and she sighs.
"A package was left at the station yesterday. Turns out one of the victim's organ was in it. A note was taped to the bottom." Louise quickly speaks, we enter the meeting hall only to see no one is present. Not even the chief.
"What did the note say?" Drew questions. I feel a sick feeling in my stomach. Is it from the same person who had been sending me packages? Apparently this person knew a lot about me, and I don't even want to know what the note said. What if it reveals something about me? No, there's no way. If it had, I wouldn't be standing here.
"That's why you guys are here. I don't think this box was meant to be sent to us. It is addressed to a man named 'Dan', and it's...really odd." Louise explains, she picks up a printed piece of paper. "The real copy was sent for finger prints."
I snatch the letter from her and read it. She flinches form my harsh movement but doesn't say anything about it.
Dan,
I know you're reading this, because I know it will somehow make it to you. Sorry I had not sent the organ to you, I could not supply you with the taste of spoiled blood and chunky flesh. I will supply you another for a kiss, haha! I hope you still love me, if not...it feels like another bullet in my head.
It ends with a smiley face, and that's what ticks me off. The writing of this note is different than the other notes. I know this handwriting is Anne's, I saw her writing back when I was stalking her in Bridgeport. She is alive, and I feel my blood boil at the thought. I throw the paper away from me like it burnt my skin. I sigh in frustration and leave the room.
"Winston?" Drew calls out to me, and Louise sighs.
"I'm frustrated as well, I thought he'd be able to solve it." Louise explains to Drew and I feel like turning back around and lighting her on fire. That bitch knows I'm frustrated and she still decides to point out my inability to solve this.
Instead of walking over and scratching her eyes out I just shoot her a dirty look over my shoulder. I leave the room in a rush, I feel the urge to kill someone and I have to do it fast. Without thinking I run to my house, with only one girl with a pathetic name in my mind. Mole.
