Chapter 19: The Nameless World - Part 1

Many such militaries that resided in the Milky Way Galaxy have unique and distinctive ways of documenting and recording the skirmishes and battles they participated in. Either for propaganda purposes for the masses or to be categorized and analyzed by future military commanders on the lessons of war, which was itself an ever-changing exchange of opposing ideas, cultures, and groups.

Vader's Galactic Empire was no exception, and the battles it had waged in its various wars have been well-documented in official and personal records. Even so, when a battle was fought, and Vader's Imperials lost or had gained a Pyrrhic victory, the broadcasting networks on the Imperial holonet made it so that any battle, regardless of outcome, projected the idea that the Empire was unbeatable in more ways than one.

Before the Imperial intervention of the Thanagarian-Gordanian War and the subsequent turmoil that would bring the greater deluge that would be called the 'Great Milky Way War,' Vader's navies had expanded into new territories in the Empire's galactic west for preparatory operations needed for his invasion plans for the Gordanians.

While this section of Imperial military history is accounted for, there are examples where a handful of battles have little to no documentation. It was no coincidence that these particular engagements were rumored to be where the Dark Lord was involved, though no historians could say why.

Darth Vader's participation in the battlefield is another topic, but hardly dismissed, and there was no shortage of propaganda footage showcasing his overwhelming skills and warlock powers across many worlds. Yet, there were a few instances in which the Emperor was rumored to be involved in combat operations, but no official confirmation could be found.

One of these instances was the Dunlop cluster campaign, where Imperial goals were to take control of the region and dislodge and totally exterminate the parasitic race known at the time as the Imperium. Retroactively speaking, this campaign was interesting in and of itself, but the main fascination often discussed was the speculation that Emperor Vader was involved more than what is officially suggested.

In the final stages of the campaign—where the Imperium-held worlds were falling one by one—one planet they held gave a considerably better defense than the others, despite Imperial reconnaissance recording that the world wasn't part of their core territories.

To explain why this was the case, historians and commentators theorized such mysteries, but the fact remained that the Imperial field commander who was assigned to take the world underperformed and dragged out the campaign, which only had an allotted amount of time by Vader's tight schedule.

This, through regular eyes, caught the attention of Vader, who, with his personal battlegroup fleet and assigned ground forces, momentarily took command over the 4th armada that was assigned to take over that section of Imperium space.

What wasn't temporary was the field commander's position in assaulting the planet, as he was 'permanently' relieved of his rank and status. It was then, only after the planet was taken and reduced to a molten rock by turbolaser fire, that the field commander's position was eventually replaced with a new officer who very well understood the consequences of failure that his predecessor observed.

The Emperor had indeed put matters into his own hands and successfully eliminated the Imperium threat on that nameless world, and shortly after, in just days, the last vestiges of that ancient parasitic race were no more in the Milky Way.

Still, historians argue that Vader's appearance within that sub-campaign defied his original planning, as he had better and more important responsibilities to handle. Theories range from another Green Lantern attack to a supposed meeting between the Imperium and the Reach, which the Dark Lord wanted to squash before an alliance could be born by their cold forms.

Those probing hypotheticals were, of course, disproved as the Green Lantern Corps had not yet escalated their conflict with Vader, and the Reach in that time hadn't calculated that Darth Vader was a rising threat until it was too late.

Moreover, the main reason for the attention of this skirmish was due to its proximity to the coming storm that is the Milky Way War, which also shadows Vader's affair with this particular battle. Yet, to this day, historians who thirst for obscure battles can be found asking one question about the event: what had brought Darth Vader to that bleak world?
