I lifted my arms and tried pushing him away but sadly he was stronger. So I gave him a big slap in face. He immediately let go and gave me a shocked look. He held his put his hand on his left cheek, which was now red.
“Oww! What’d you do that for?” he said, slightly rubbing his cheek. I glared at him.
“I did it because you kissed me out of nowhere!”
“You hit me because I kissed you?” He gave me a confused look. “Are you serious?”
“Of course I’m serious!” I could tell we were causing a scene but I didn’t care. This guy had some serious issues. “Who the hell gave you permission to kiss me because I sure as hell didn’t? You can’t go around kissing strangers!”
“Strangers?” Now he looked completely lost.
I stared at him completely annoyed. “Yes, strangers. I don’t know you and you don’t know me.”
“Oh, I see,” he moved his hand from his cheek as he looked down. “You forgot me.” When he lifted his head up again he looked really sad. I know I shouldn’t feel bad but I did.
“Huh?” I asked.
“It’s fine, Ellie. Just pretend this never happened.” He gave me a sad smile before getting of from the table. I stared at him as he walked away. Why does he know my name? Who is he? Why did I feel bad? Well, I wasn’t going to sit and question myself. I stood up and went after him.
“Wait,” I called. He stopped and turned around. I was kind of shocked when he looked at me with happy eyes. “Umm…” was all I managed to get out.
“Yes?”
I could feel my cheeks slightly blush and I didn’t know why. I avoided his eyes as I spoke. “How do you know my name? Who are you?” I looked at him directly when he laughed a bit.
“You haven’t changed at all,” he looked down at me and I felt nervous. “You don’t have to worry about it. If you don’t remember there’s nothing I can do.” He started walking away again but I grabbed his arm.
“I didn’t get any answers,” I said a bit irritated. I hate not knowing what’s going on. “ Who are you?”
“Since you insist, the name’s Jace.” Ok, I got a first name. That’s progress.
“How do you know me?”
“You wouldn’t believe me if I told you. It’s not like you remember me or the reason I kissed you. You hit me with a little force there.”
“Well, excuse me for being a little surprised. That was my first kiss and-“
“You guys kissed?” I heard a familiar voice from behind me. I reluctantly turned to find Annabeth. She looked at Jace then at me. I could tell she was angry. “You said you didn’t like anyone…”
“I don’t,” I said quickly. “He just caught me by surprise. I swear.” Annabeth stepped closer to me and pulled me closer to her.
“Now, let’s hear your excuse,” she said looking at Jace. He just stared at her with a blank expression.
“Why?”
“Because I’d like to know why you attacked my friend.”
“But, what I do with her has nothing to do with you…”
“Yes. It does!”
“Because?” he said, drawing the word out longer.
“Because I’m looking out for her and when some random guy at the mall attacks I think I have the right to stick up for her. Come on, Ellie. We’re leaving.” We started walking off in the other direction.
“See ya, Ells,” Jace called after me.
“Umm, see ya,” I said. It wasn’t until we were in Annabeth’s car that I realized he called me by my nickname.
“Earth to Ellie!” Annabeth said suddenly.
“Huh?”
“What’d he want from you?”
“I’m not sure…” I sighed then looked at her. “You’re not mad are you? I know you’re attracted to him.”
“Nah, it’s fine. He’s probably a player. I don’t need a guy like that,” she said while she turned the car on. I smirked to myself. If anyone was a player, it was Annabeth.
“You sure?”
“Yep. We’re probably never going to see him again anyway.”
“Yeah…” She was right. This was probably the last time we’ll meet. I still have questions that I want the answers to. And I only have his first name. I can’t do anything with that. Dammit….
