The Stone Pillars
The sun shone through the windscreen of Quinn's Mustang. It had just finished raining, the reflection of the sun glistening on the wet express road made for a wonderful mirage like show. Her phone rang snapping her out of her daze, she looked at her phone and saw that her friend Aleissa was calling her.
She considered letting it go to voice mail, but her fingers were against her and there was a scream from the other end of the call followed by a deathly silence, she tried to call out to call out to her incredibly annoying friend who lived to prank her friends, but she felt responsible for her friend and she continued to call out to her friend until she was answered by an annoyingly high voice which she instinctively knew was Aleissa's.
"Aleissa what's wrong"
"Hey Quinny what's up, I don't mean to sound like a bad friend, but why are you calling. You know that I have my anniversary dinner with Drew tonight and you're kind of interrupting "
Quinn was about to throw her phone out of the window when she saw two massive stone pillars on the side of a nearby hill. It let of an aura irresistible to Quinn. She cut the call and set a course to the gigantic pillars that she felt would be the start of something life changing. Those two pillars held something in them, a sort of promise of something amazing or just simply incredible.
She reached the pillars a few minutes after 5 o'clock. The pillars were a lot larger than she thought and that saying a lot, they were at least 70 meters tall and she wondered how she hadn't heard of it before on a documentary or the news. She got out her car and kept walking until she was just in front the left pillar. There were words in a language she didn't understand. There was an unnatural drop in temperature as she touched the pillar. She had a few hours until she was supposed to call her mum. At the end of a short debate with herself she decided to go through the middle of the pillars just to see what happens.
She walked the middle of the two pillars and stopped. She'd always wondered why people stopped in front of strange doorways and now she knew why, it was fear of the unknown. She whispered to herself "fear is a delusion, and it holds no place in your life" something her high school basketball coach used to say. She took a deep breath and took a step through the gateway and was greeted by a sudden warmth and then darkness.
