Hey, I hope you like my new story, it's up for the Watty Awards so please vote, comment, fan and tell your friends and fans! :D (P.S., I know the girls names are a type of gem, that's just a coincidence. And also, the café isn't the only café in a small town in Louisiana, I just felt like writing that. :D)
Thanks,
Amy :D

BEEP, BEEP, BEEP! BEEP, BEEP, BEEP! My alarm screamed. I moaned and slapped the snooze button. School could wait another five minutes, right? Then my phone rang. "Ughh! Fine! I'm up, I'm up! I dragged myself out of my warm bed and grabbed my phone. Sapphire. I grabbed it and punched the call button.
"Took you long enough! So anyways, after school, do you want to go shopping? My treat! Besides, I need a new out fit for..." I spaced out and got ready while she chirped on about what we could do at the mall. Honestly, she might be clothes mad, but I'm certainly not. If you saw us, you wouldn't think we were best friends. Everyday, she comes in wearing the latest fashions, while I come in wearing a shirt, jeans and a backpack slung over my shoulder. I like it like that though. I don't like being the center of attention, so I'm glad to just be the one who sits at the back of the class, doesn't go all out to wear the best clothes.
"So what do you think?" Sapphire asked impatiently.
"Think about what?" I asked, now fully dressed in my Green Day top, my light jeans and my black Converse.
"Me getting a new pair of Converse! I was thinking of buying a red pair. What do you think?"
"Yeah that'd be cool. I gotta go, see you at school."
"OK, bye!! She squealed and hung up.
I slung my backpack over my shoulder and went downstairs to the kitchen. My mom was at the stove cooking an omelet with onions, and I have to admit it smelled amazing. I kissed her cheek and she gave me a plate. I sat at the old wooden table and began digging in. They tasted even better than they smelled. I guess I was used to it since my mom owns the best and only café in our little town in Louisiana. I cleared my plate and put it in the basin, hugged my mom goodbye.
"I'm going shopping with Sapphire after school, do you need anything?" I asked, grabbing my bag from the chair. "Can you lift me some eggs, honey? We're almost out." She smiled as she sat down to eat her omelet. "Yeah, see you after school, I love you!"
"Love you too, honey. Be careful!" I ran down the stairs and around the little red tables and chairs that filled the café. I ran across the street just in time to catch my bus to school.
"Hey, Martin, got room for one more?" I said as I hopped on. "You know it, Ruby, grab a seat." I payed him my fare and sat in my usual seat, second row, left side at the window. I read the local newspaper they stock on the bus for a while. Bill from down the road had caught the biggest Pike on record from the lake in the woods. Aunt Sadie had finally accomplished her dream and was now running her own cupcake shop. It was Sophia and Martin's golden wedding anniversary. "Happy Anniversary, Martin." He turned and smiled while the little ladies who sit in the library with cups of tea and talk all day were getting off to go and do just that.
"Thank you, Ruby. Fifty years. Feels like yesterday I was watching her walk down the aisle. How the time flies."
I sat and flicked through the paper when I heard the excited chatter that could only be high school kids. I sighed. "Bye, Martin. Time for another round of horror."
