I looked up from my book as I saw Mrs. Lenzin, my guardian, enter my room and sit beside me on my bed. "Lily, I have some good news" she smiled as she took my hands into hers. I already knew what she was going to say just by the look on her face, they found one of my parents. "We found your dad. Lily you've seen your dad before..." I looked at her confused, she sighed, "not in person but on tv, alot."
I furrowed my eyebrows, "What are you saying, Mrs. Lenzin?" She turned and pulled out a huge file and I knew it was mine. There were essays, awards, drawings, my paperwork and more crammed into it. She carefully opened it and pulled out a packet that was on top. She handed it to me and as I stared at the man in the photo, I realized that I looked exactly like my father. I also realized that my father was super famous and filthy rich. Mrs. Lenzin looked at me, "Lily, you know how the system works they're having your things took to his house tomorrow but you'll be meeting him somewhere else today. After his meeting he wants you and him to spend some time together, to get to know each other."
I could hear the sadness in her voice and I could tell that she just found out. I leaned over, gave her a long hug, and said quietly, "I will visit you as much as I can, I promise." As we pulled away I smiled and we both wiped away our tears.
She stood and took a deep breath, "Your plane leaves soon." She helped me pack my suitcases, packing only what I would need and promising to send more. She told me she would leave some things unless I wanted them, so when I visited I could sleep in my own bedroom, that still looked like home. Once I said all my goodbyes and tears were shed, Mrs. Lenzin took me to the airport. As soon as I was seated on the plane it hit me, in three hours I was going to meet my father for the first time. The realization, worry, pain, and disappointment hit me all at once.
As I sat in a limo listening to "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten on my phone, I stared at the photo of my mom holding me at the hospital a little while after I was born in my locket that I always wore. This was the only memory I had of her besides for the ring that she left me. When I looked back up I saw him standing on the sidewalk as the limo pulled up to a huge building. I realized where we were immediately because people on Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter couldn't stop talking about it.
Second Chance, my absolute favorite band was signing autographs here today and in two days they will be performing not far from here. The door opened, I stepped out, sighing as he came over and gave me a hug. I hugged him back because even though there was anger, I was still so happy to finally meet him.
He was still hugging me when he said, "I'm so happy to finally meet you, Lily." I was about to answer when I heard a sound that I knew all too well, disgust. I pulled back to see his daughter standing a few feet away, glaring at me. She stormed up and slapped me right across the face, though it didn't affect me. I was used to it. "GET YOUR DIRTY HANDS OFF MY FATHER!!!" she yelled, gaining everyone's attention.
I took one more glance at him and ran into the building crying. I heard him tell her she was grounded, to hand over her things (phone, credit card, keys, etc.), and then tell her who I was. I went into the bathroom, wiped away my tears, and reapplied the light makeup that Mrs. Lenzin's daughter had insisted I wear. I fixed my shirt and went out to find my father.
