The sound of a sharp, loud voice woke me up. My eyes opened to someone opening my curtains beside me, letting the blinding light leak in.
I closed my eyes again and threw a pillow over my head, groaning at Anya's lecture about my day. She's my activity director, whatever that is. This girl is only a couple years older and is acting like my own mother twenty four seven, always hounding me.
"You're going horse riding with your fiancé this morning, then you'll come back to the palace for brunch with your wedding planner, and the rest of the day you'll be having a training class with Miss. Duree."
I felt a nervous punch in the gut as she said the words 'your fiancé,' but I ignored that dreadful thought and moved on. "Training class for what?" I asked, stretching as I sat up in bed.
"Training for how to be a queen." She said bluntly. "Now hurry up, your outfit is sitting on the dresser and I expect you to be in the courtyard for breakfast in fifteen minutes."
With a groan, I plopped back down on my bed. A class with that old hag who thinks she can tell me how to dress? My old life keeps sounding better and better.
Hopefully today that fairy godmother comes with a plan to fix this, the fairytale life really isn't suiting me as much as I thought it would.
Dragging myself out of bed, I walked to my dresser and looked out the outfit with a grimace. They expect me to ride horses in this? I could live inside this dress. And it's pink, of course.
I think Anya noticed I was half a minute late when I arrived at the courtyard for breakfast, because the look she was giving me wasn't too pleasant.
"Good morning, beautiful." The prince greeted me, kissing my hand and pulling out my chair to a nicely set table. I awkwardly sat down and smiled in return, realizing that I still don't know his name and I'd feel utterly ridiculous if I asked.
"Excited for today's festivities?" He asked me with a charming grin. The sun shone right into his bright blue eyes, making them sparkle. At times like these he makes me question if this man is truly real.
"Of course, I'm most delighted." I attempted to talk like I was posh, but those kinds of words just don't seem to reach the part of the village where I live.
Thankfully, a servant came out with or food, breaking the awkward silence. So Anya can sit here and watch me like a hawk, but she can't make a little conversation.
How lovely.
To my relief, the food wasn't something extremely weird like last night, giving me awful flashbacks. It was simple, delicious, and edible.
After we finished, which was pretty quick thanks to me starving since last night, we got into a nice carriage which would lead us to the stables.
"This is going to remind of how we met," the prince smiled at me. "You really do love horses."
I tried to hide my confusion with a smile, what? I thought they met at the ball?
"Yes, it will. It was such a- magical day. Would you mind telling the story? I would love to hear you say it." I asked casually, hinting a pleading look on my face.
"Of course." He started. "I was out on the country side, riding my horse. Taking time to think about life and just get away from all the business at home. Until suddenly I noticed a girl on her horse, who was running at the speed of light out of control. The girl fell off in a flash, the horse dashing away. I ran to her rescue and couldn't help but freeze when I saw her face..." He looked off into the distance.
"Beautiful blue eyes, long, light blonde hair, perfect porcelain skin, and the most breath taking smile. A smile that could cure this world's worst diseases. A smile that could brighten anyone's day. A smile of an angel. Your smile."
