1. The mermaid in the real story had no name
2. She died in the end
3. She did not collect objects of the human world
4. She had her tongue cut out of her mouth, her voice didn't just "disappear"
5. She was topless, no "seashell bra"
6. The real story was sad
7. There were no cheeky musical numbers about how "everything's betta (pun very much intended) under the sea"
8. The mermaids body wasn't grossly disproportionate, I mean, I get that she's a fish girl and it's kinda hard to give correct proportions to a freakish animal hybrid, but still
9. I know it's a cartoon but aquatic animals do NOT play themselves like instruments, and the way they do so in this movie is kinda disturbing considering they all seem so happy about it
10. Ariel pretends to think forks are combs even though she clearly knows a lot about hair products (see her weird 80's bangs for more information)Although this adaptation did have some redeeming qualities, such as
1. The "I wanna be where the people are" song was pretty good and emotional, I don't know if I can see it being in the actual story, but it made me cry once when I was sick and feeling emotional
2. The "poor unfortunate souls song" is pretty awesome too, I doubt that would ever come near the actual story but it's fun in a not so "under the sea" way and it works with its story, even if it's not the original
And that's about it
I only liked the musical numbers
And not even all of them
Rest in piece Hans, your story has been destroyed but try to "Let It Go"
(Yes, I am going to do Frozen, which was also originally his story, it changed in a good way though aside from the music)
