The sun reflects brightly off the shimmering windows in Diagon ally as I sit on some steps outside Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour licking my mint mice Ice cream as my eyes scan the busy crowd of Hogwarts students for Mavis.
Suddenly I catch sight of her long brown hair bobbing towards me in the mass of people. I quickly stand up and try to catch her eye, however she doesn’t see me
“Mavis!” I yell into the crowd
She turns at her name and spots me. With a grin I run towards her and embrace her in a hug
“I’ve missed you so much” I say
“I’ve missed you too” she replies then gives me a strange look “What happened too your nose?” she asks curiously
“Err, It was the cat” I say “I’ll explain later”
“Oh.” She says smiling at me
“That reminds me, can I share your supply list? Scruff ate mine this morning”
“Of course, that cat is more trouble than it’s worth.” I can see she’s resisting the urge to laugh, Scruff gets me into all kinds of trouble at school too
"Where's Thomas?" I ask
Mavis has to have a guard with her at all times, its part of her fathers 'protection prgram'. To be completely honest i'm amazed Thomas hasn't quit yet, that or died. She usually has to get a new one every six months or so.
"Ditched him." She replys calmly
I nod "Okay.."
We walk over and sit down on some steps and chat about our summers, both seem to have been just about as rubbish as the others. After a while I sigh and say
“I suppose we should go and get our things then, What’s first on the list?” I say as I finish up my ice cream
Mavis pulls out a neatly folded letter from her pocket and says
“Standard book of spells grade 3.”
“To Flourish and Blots then!” I say, grabbing her hand and pulling her along the busy streets, laughing as we walk along
“Maybe we shouldn’t have left it to the last day” I think allowed, as I realize they must be nearly out of stock.
“It will be fine” she assures me as we turn a corner and see the bright and cheery shop that is known as Flourish and Blots, books and books line the shelves. They have from children’s tales to guides from the dark times. Many Hogwarts students are also collecting their school books for the year.
We walk over to the door and open it. As we step inside the pleasant ring of a chimes above us.
“Hello, how can I help you?” Says a busy looking shop assistant
“Hogwarts stuff please.” I say to him
“3rd years.” Mavis adds quickly, handing him the list of our school supplies
“Of course, come this way then” he says while waving us over to the back of the shop. He shows us all the books needed for our 3rd year at Hogwarts.
“Monster books of monsters, Unfogging the future, Intermediate Transfiguration, The Standard book of spells grade 3” I say, checking them off on the list as we go along
“Yep, that’s everything” I say to Mavis
Once he hands us two of every book we head to the check out and pay. We walk out of the crammed shop to be greeted by Thomas.
