(Media Box was giving hassle but you should totally go listen to The Script-Hail, Rain or Sunshine 🎧 http://youtu.be/aHqPzuiKBZ0 )
TaylorI wake up and I can hear it drizzling outside. The faint pitter patter of the raindrops on my windowsill. I haven't opened my eyes but can picture the sky outside; a light grey, tinted the slightest blue with clouds covering most of the sky and the bright light of the sun.
I open my eyes and sit up to look out my window. Okay so maybe it wasn't the exact weather I pictured but it was my favorite type none the less. The type of stay at home weather. Wear a sweater and drink hot chocolate while curled up with a good book weather.
I can hear my dad bustling around the kitchen downstairs and the frying of pans and the clatter of crockery in the sink.
I stand up and prepare myself to start the day properly. Quick stretch. Deep Breathe in...1...2...3...Deep breathe out..."Mmmm yum," I sigh; whatever dad's making smells really good...I take a step towards my cupboard and the floorboard creeks. Everything seams to creek in this house these days. Not really a surprise considering this was the house not only I had grown up in but the house my father had grown up in, the house that my grandfather had grown up in even before him!
I take another step and the floorboards creek again,"Taylor? Are you up sweetie?" I hear my dad call up the stairs, "Hurry up and get dressed; you'll need to leave for school soon and I made pancakes for breakfast."
"Be right there," I call back.
I walk over to my cupboard and pull out today's outfit of choice. A dark navy sweater that's more or less two sizes too big for me but none the less my favorite. It was cozy, warm and perfect for days like these.
I grab a black pair of skinny jeans and pull on my black converse trainers to accompany it. My trainers were worn down and broken but I still loved them and they fit really well, plus they were really comfy. My mom had got them for me on our last shopping trip.
I run down to the end of the passage and start to take the stairs two at a time. I barge into the kitchen and jump onto one of the seats at the island counter in the middle of our kitchen nearly falling off In my haste.
"Woah there," my dad laughs, "You're like a whirlwind, slow down there or you might kill somebody Tay."
I love it when my dad laughs; his eyes glow brighter and the edges of his smile crease as it grows bigger.
"Sorry," I say starting to laugh now too; "I guess I'm just excited for the first day back at school; a new year, new friends, getting to see my old friends, plenty more books to read.. You know the usual."
"Ah okay I see. Well eat up, I made your favorite. Still hot so be careful."
He slides a plate of steaming pancakes across the counter and I see he's even given the stack a face. He used Nutella to make the eyes mouth and nose, (um like DELICIOUS) and given it hair of mixed berries.
"Looks good dad, thanks like but seriously this rocks!"
He laughs as he turns back to the stove to make some more pancakes and finish up the batter. I start to eat as he start to whistle along to The Script singing Hail, Rain or Sunshine on the radio (one of my favorites) and I know something's up."Why so happy dad? What's going on that I don't know about?" I ask grinning at him.
"Nothing," he replies, not even bothering to hide the huge smile on his face.
"Oh come on old man, what's going on?"
"Old man? I'm only forty-five! And if you must know..." The loud ringing of our house phone cuts him off and I jump up to answer it."Hello, Kennedy Residence..."
I'm answered by a loud scream on the other end and can tell just by that who's calling.
"Hey Addy!" I laugh, "How are you!""Tay I'm FABULOUS as always! What type of a question is that even?" I look out the window as we both stand there laughing; it's stopped raining and the sun has come out.
"Right of course, it's not a question. So what's up?"
"Well it's the first day of school and I'm on my way to walk by best friend to school as always! I'll be there in about ten minutes." Then she hangs up.Of course she is. Addy has been my best friend ever since we met in first grade when she offered me half her sandwich when mine had gotten stolen out the cubby holes just before break.
I go back to sit at the counter giggling and finish my last bite of my delicious breakfast.
"Who was that?"
"Addy of course, who else?"
"Ah okay, well you better finish up then and get ready to go."
"Sure thing. Hey, are you gonna tell me why you're all smiley and whistling radio tunes?"
"Well my darling daughter, what I was saying before I was interrupted is that if you must know..I'm going for a job interview today and if all goes well, you're looking at the next Head Manager of Emirates Airlines."
"That's insane dad, I hope you get it."Just then Addy bursts through the front door and walks into the kitchen, "Hey Tay, Hey Mr K, LOL that rhymed. I'm such a poet...and I know it! I'm on a roll!"
"Morning Addeline, want some pancakes?"
"No thanks Mr K I had a really big breakfast at home, thanks for the offer though."
"Anytime."It was really funny how comfortable Addy was at my house...okay well technically her second home. We were basically sisters to put it simply.
"Ready to go?" Addy asks.
"Sure."
"Well bye dad, I'll see you later tonight. Good luck with your interview! Love ya papa," I call as we are going through the front door.
"Bye Mr K!"
"Goodbye you two," he calls back, "Enjoy the first day back at school!"I have this weird feeling that today's going to be an interesting but good day considering it's already started with all my favorite things. I can't help feel nervous yet excited as I close the front door behind me.
And so Addy and I started the walk to school; taking the route we had traveled everyday for ten years.
