Cas woke up earlier than usual feeling a missing presence beside him in bed. He sat up and rubbed the sleep from his eyes as he picked up a note taped to Deans pillow.
"Follow the trail, Love Dean." Cas read out loud as he swung his feet off the bed. Instead of his feet landing on his Pink fuzzy slippers that Charlie bought him last Christmas he stepped on a Polaroid photo.
Cas stood up and bent down and picked up the photo with himself and Dean huddled together in front of the fire at the ski lodge Dean took him too on their three month anniversary.
"1: From now on I promise: To never surprise you with a skiing trip again." was written on the bottom of the photo.
Cas laughed remembering Deans surprise to Colorado to go skiing not realizing Cas's deep hatred for being cold.
Cas followed the trail of Polaroids outside the bedroom and down the hall:
"2: From now on I promise: To always find ways to make you smile." Along with a picture of Cas smiling on the couch snuggled up with Deans sweatshirt after just getting over the flu.
"3: From now on I promise: to hold you when you're upset." A photo of Cas in Deans lap on the kitchen floor after Cas caught dinner on fire and almost the kitchen with it.
"4: From now on I promise: to protect you always." A photo of Cas helping Dean up the stairs after a hunt went bad and Dean selflessly took a good stab in the leg for Cas.
"5: From now on I promise: to always find my way back to you." With a photo of Dean soaking wet from walking home in the storm after his car broke down. He already promised Cas to make it home early to watch the cat Olympics on Animal Planet and he couldn't let him down.
"6: From now on I promise: to never leave you even when i'm certain its for the best." A photo of Dean hugging Cas from behind and resting his chin on Cas's shoulder that he insisted Sam take for them.
"7: From now on I promise: to hold you." with a photo of Cas and Dean snuggled up on the couch after trying to pull an all nighter Netflix marathon.
"8: From now on I promise: to stop saying things I don't mean when we fight." below a photo of Cas and Sam playing chess in the bunkers library after one of Cas and Deans biggest fights. Dean came home drunk for the third time that week and Cas told him that if it happened again he was leaving, Dean told him to just get it over with, 'It wasn't like we were meant to last anyways cas.'
"9: From now on I promise:To treat you like a king...and to let you choose the costumes next time." a photo of Cas, Dean, Charlie, and Sam at Comic Con with medieval costumes on. Dean insisted their be two kings.
"10: From now on I promise: to try and get along with that crazy ass family of yours." a photo of Gabe giving Cas a knuckle sandwhich.
By this time Cas was at the top of the stairs leading down to the first floor of the bunker. When he looked up from the last photo in his hands he saw Dean at the bottom of his stairs in just his boxers and a Stanford sweatshirt that he stole from Sam.
"Surprised you even got out of bed this morning." Dean teased with his hands hidden behind his back.
"I'm surprised you didn't bother putting on pants again...oh wait. No I'm not." Cas smirked at Dean as he reached the bottom step now face to face with him.
"Hey! I just didn't want you to feel underdressed." Dean said in defense.
Cas laughed and shook his head realizing that he too was still in his boxers and one of Deans old Levi tees.
"So thats why you've been carrying that old polaroid for the past few months." Cas smiled at Dean wrapping his arms around his waist.
"mhmm. I have some more too." He said his face blushing slightly as he handed Cas a large scrapbook.
"Dean Winchester. Did you...Did you.. Scrapbook?" Cas smiled widely as he flipped through the pages of the book.
"Uh..Yeah..If you tell anyone I'll-"
"You'll what dean? Bake me some cookies too? Or maybe some brownies?"
"You know you've gotten real good at being an ass over the past few years." Dean said as he took the book back and rested it on the last step by Cas's feet.
"Well they were good years for me..for us too." Cas smiled.
"Speaking of us..." Dean said nervously his legs visibly shaking as he got down on one knee and pulled out a red ring box from his sweatshirt pocket and opened for Cas to see a small black stone ring inside. The ring was made of black opal and had 'CW + DW' carved into the inside of the ring.
"Dean-" Cas choked unsure if this was all real or not.
"Castiel, Ex angel of the lord, will you uh..Marry me? For like ever?"
"Dean.. I thought..I thought-"
"I know what I said cas, and I was an idiot, okay? I thought I didn't deserve to be with someone as..as /amazing/ as you..But I love you and hopefully you love me just as much.. I think we're ready for this Cas.."
Cas smiled softly at Dean, "You're right.. we are ready. So does this mean.. You're my fiancé?"
"Cas..You have to say 'yes' first." Dean laughed shakily.
"Oh right! But first.. promise me you wont make fun of my Ducky pajamas anymore.."
"Jesus Cas You're killing me...Okay. I promise to never make fun of you're Ducky pajamas." Dean let out a full bodied laugh and shook his head.
"Can we get a cat too?"
"NO!"
"I was just joking Dean." Cas laughed softly.
"Can you marry me now?"
"Of course."
Dean smiled and took the ring from the box and slid it onto to cas's finger before pulling him close and kissing him breathless.
Thanks to Sam and Charlie they had one more photo in their album.
