At first, he didn't believe it either, but the gods of Olympus are real. Sometimes, these gods have children with mortals, called half-bloods. He was lucky enough to be one of them. His name is Trey Cardi and he is the son of Dionysus, God of wine and parties.
The sun was rising slowly up through what appeared to be dark gray clouds. Trey's journey started when his mom raced through their entire house to wake him up and tell him something that she had been waiting to tell Trey his whole life. Just as Trey was opening his brown eyes (Hershey's kisses as his mom would call them when he was three), Trey's mom was walking into his room saying, "Rise and shine, time for your big news." As he was sitting up in bed, his mind was raced and started jumping to not-so-exciting conclusions. "We finally got a new couch," or, "We're getting our house painted," would not have been an appealing surprise. Although the real surprise was far more enthusiastically reacted to and said. That day was when Trey's mom told him that he was the son of Dionysus. After that, his mom told him that he'd be going to a new camp in five days. "What's the camp called?" Trey asked. "Camp Half-Blood," she answered back, "you'll be living there for the rest of the summer. They have all kinds of activities for half-bloods like you: archery, capture the flag." Now, this sounded fun, but it was the first time Trey had ever been away from home more than a week. Trey put on a worried countenance.
"Don't worry, Trey, your friends are going, too." "All of them?" Keep in mind that he didn't have many friends, meaning that "all of them" meant only two. "Yes, uhhh who are they.... ummmm, oh yeah! Pierce and Angelica." Trey was shocked that they were half-bloods, too and he wondered who their godly parents were. As soon as she said those names, Trey took the worried countenance off his face, put on a big smile, and hugged his mom. The first four days, however, turned out to be soul-rendering. Trey lived in Phoenix, Arizona at the time, and as you probably already know, it's hot as hell - well, hades (been doing some research on Greek mythology). Anyway, since it was so hot there, Trey partook in swimming most of the summer. One day, Trey was out in the pool doing some laps on the second day, when the water in the pool started bubbling up from the bottom of one side of the pool. Trey put his goggles on and submerged his head underwater. No holes or cracks under the bubbles, they just seemed to be coming out of thin air - thin water? Trey took his head out of the pool and took off his goggles in confusion. Then, in that moment, the bubbles stopped and, for some very illogical reason, the water started running up onto the pavement. Trey had never seen anything so illogical in his life! He thought, Who would ever see this or even hear of something like this happening in anyone's lifetime? Trey was already out of the water at this point, walking over to where the water was coming up out of the pool. The water started, he didn't know, clumping up in one place, (seriously, he don't know how to explain that part) getting as tall as Trey himself, which was about five feet at the time. All of a sudden, the tower of water soon turned into a young girl. "Hello, Trey." the 'thing' said.
"What... huh?" Trey was speechless.
"Oh, so you've never heard of a naiad," it said sarcastically, "water nymph?" Come to think of it, Trey has heard the strange word before, but I never knew what it was. Trey was still speechless. "Trey..."
"How do you know my name?"
"I've come to tell you about something very important. My name is Nazeem." Trey was now in awe, Nazeem was cute. Totally knockout gorgeous like one of his crushes at school (there were many, but this one was unlike any other). "My name is.... uhhhh."
"Trey," Nazeem snapped back,"I know. Now onto more important matters: the titan Themis is rising up, and you must put an end to her reign, and if not, all of the world's divine order and law will crumble and fall. Talk to Chiron at camp for more details." Trey was shocked that she knew everything that he was doing in the next week, and he didn't even know who Chiron was. With Nazeem's final sentence, she melted back into Trey's pool. Research is key. That statement is definite, but he needed some help actually doing it today. "Only two more days until I'm off to camp," Trey said to himself with a sigh. Trey called Pierce and Angelica on his smartphone so they could all hang out together before they headed off to camp. Both of them surprisingly accepted the invitation and soon, there was a knock at his door. "Hey Trey," Angelica said with a grin, "excited for camp?"
"Yeah," he answered back, "but I don't know what to expect. Come in, gotta tell you guys something." Soon after getting a big bowl of Cheetos from the kitchen, the group sat down on the futon in Trey's mom's office. He told them what happened to him two days before. Pierce nodded thoughtfully as Trey was talking while Angelica was in awe. "Well," he said at the end, "that's it. Will you guys help me research about Themis and maybe help me defeat her?"
"Why wouldn't I?" Pierce enthusiastically blurted out. Trey could tell that Angelica didn't know what to say. "Trey," she said quietly, "do you even know what you're getting yourself into? This could get us killed!"
He hated that word, kill.
"I'm willing to try and save the world's government," Trey said.
"Then let's get down to business!" Pierce yelled.
Why? Trey didn't know why, but Pierce was really excited about researching Themis. They found out that Themis was described as "of good counsel" and she was one of the Oracles at Delphi. Although they didn't get much information on her, we still had some questions. Why would Nazeem say that if we were to slay Themis, the world's divine order and law will crumble or fall even though it's a really easy question to answer? Themis "holds up" the Earth's government, and if they were to kill her, we would cause chaos to erupt and make the world's government to decay. Wouldn't that make us the bad guy? Trey tried not to think about all of the questions, there was only one more day until camp.
