*Hestia*
The woman held her child close to her bosom, smiling down at the swaddled baby. She had just given birth to the most beautiful creature in all of the world, the one that would bring her joy to the rest of her life. She heard a slight knocking on the door to her corners, her head shot up and faced the secret door, her heart pounding deep inside her chest. A head peeked through the curtains that covered the door, her sister's golden hair falling over her shoulders. The two siblings admired the child and watched the infant as she slept, the fire in the furnace burning stronger as the child breathed.
The smiling stopped suddenly and worried looks shadowed their faces. The mother nodded her head, her dark hair shielding her child. Both acted swiftly and rushed to the window as heavy feet were heard bounding up the steps. Both hearts were racing as the sounds of angry men began banging on the door. The younger sister helped her elder climb down the side of the wall after climbing out of the window. The woman made sure to hold her child close and safe. When her feet touched the ground, a crashing sound was heard and her sister was no where to be seen. Scared, the woman ran through the clearing and into the woods, praying that her sister wasn't hurt. She ran up the cliff, being sure to hide herself and her new child. Yelling was heard from the distance, and the distant fire began to light up the skies. She found refuge in an abandoned cottage on the edge, even though she knew it would be too obvious and the first place the soldiers would look.
She rushed in and left the door as she saw it. She knew this place and knew the pathways and secret shelters. She knew because this was where she used to hide when the troubles in the house became too much to bear. Opening up the divan, an underground shelter was found underneath. She smiled in remembrance and clutched her baby closer to her chest. She began making her way down the stairs as she heard the angry voices becoming louder and nearer. Her head was completely covered in the darkness when she reached up to close the seat of the divan, but a hand grabbed her wrist.
She was roughly pulled up and muttered a curse or two in her native language. Using all the power and strength in her to make sure that her child did not fall, she threw her head back, catching the soldier off guard. She turned around to see that it wasn't a soldier but in fact someone she knew for a very long time, someone she loved. The one who was holding her hand had curly blonde hair and piercing blue eyes; her brother. His eyes sparked and flashed with annoyance before reaching for her again.
He grabbed her by the chin and squeezed hard, "You should not have done that. You know what needs to be done." he growled. His eyes softened when he looked into his sisters eyes but it was there for only a second. He focused on the sounds of the child's crying and roared. "How could you be so silly? Silly enough to try and do this? What? Did you plan on running away?" The woman he was holding lost all her strength and stared at him like a frail maiden. "I can't let this continue, you must understand that." He snatched the child from her without another word and held it upside down by the legs, the infant's yells were doing nothing to help the matter. Gentlemen of her brother crowded the mother and held her back. She watched helplessly as her brother carried the crying child out of the cottage. She began screaming and crying, clawing out of the men's grip. Tears flooded her eyes as the man she once called her brother gave her one last look and threw the child off the cliff, into an abyss where she would forever be alone.
