Stairs

Stairs, stairs everywhere,

on the ground and in the air.

Stairs leading to every shop and house,

tiny stairs, that are fit for a mouse.

Stairs leading up to every floor and door,

Stairs everywhere but we want even more!

Who can stand that treacherous walk?

A walk that we can't walk and talk.

For buildings high and buildings low,

We should make something that goes above and below.

Something that moves and does all the work,

That can stop very quickly, with a small jerk.

"I know what!" an inventor declared.

"I will build something to replace the stairs.

I call it an elevator, well, wouldn't you?

It goes up and down, it'll even stop too."

"It will even have music?" some people did ask.

"Of course it will, but it will be a hard task."

Day and night the inventor worked on

the elevator to be built for everyone.

But the inventor finished in no time at all,

the big box that hides behind a big wall.

And soon in every shop and building

There had been made an up and down thing.

But soon people missed the feel of stairs

and being able to walk up and down in pairs.

But they really did like the elevator too

With it's ease of going up and down and tune

and for that reason,

They built an escalator.
