As soon as I became conscious my head starts to pound. I keep my eyes shut for the fear of what I would see if I opened them. What would I see? Where would I be? Who am I?
Alexis.
That's my name, I'm Alexis. How do I know? I'm wearing something, thick soft cloth, a robe perhaps?
"Open your eyes" a deep thick voice of a man says. I feel compelled to open them, the curiosity for what may lie in front of me was immense. But the fear was strong as well.
I took in a deep breath as my head ache slowly fades and open my eyes. I sit on my knees in the middle of people in black robes. The room is dark, the only light comes from a few strange candles held by some of the robed people. Scanning the faces I notice many of them are old, there are few middle aged people. Most look bored, only one or two of the middle aged people look at me interested.
"Child born to the darkness, what is your name?" The deep voice asked pulling me out of my thoughts.
Born to the darkness? That sounds freaky...
"Alexis" I answer quickly, I'm nervous, but also at peace what a strange feeling this is. I look toward the direction I heard the voice. There stood a tall dark man shadows dance across his serious face. A thin, twig like woman to his side furiously writes down something. Must be important.
A large door opens in front of me and a man with kind eyes and a nice smile says
"Hello Alexis. I am Arthur, Head of the Newborn Introduction program for Black Faction. You're probably a bit confused, so please come with me and I can explain who you are and where you are."
I rise to my feet slowly, pulling on the robe fully and follow him out the door, and down the dark hallway. He goes into a room and sits behind a table "please, take a seat." He motioned to the seat across from his desk.
I plopped down onto the cushioned thing. He slide me some papers and explained "Our society is made up of factions, each represented by a color. In factions each person has similar traits as their color. This is the Black faction that you have been born into."
He continued to talk but I lost focus and looked at the papers he had given me.
Each color was written neatly with a description by each of them.
"... And that's why we have different and special abilities" Arthur finished.
"Huh?" I look up at him.
"I know it can be a bit confusing at first, but I think you'll adjust just fine." He smiles at me.
"We have a bit of a schooling program to get your powers under control, but then we'll have to leave you to independent learning. Though when do have quite the library here that should have plenty of spell books." He nods to himself.
I stare at him trying to understand what was happening.
Okay, so then, I have magical powers... Interesting.
I stare at my hand "necromancy?" I ask to no one in particular, but Arthur says "yes, we can communicate with the dead, rise the dead, and take care of many monster... problems."
I wiggle my fingers, expecting what? I don't know.
"The highly skilled can use shadow travel to go great distances." He added.
"Do you have any questions?" He asks.
"Where will I live? What will I wear? Where will I get food?" Question erupt from my mind and slur out of my mouth.
"In your own house provided by none other than, me" he points to himself smiling. "We'll also give you an allowance for 3 month or until you find you find a job, which ever comes first. You can go shopping for clothes later. There are some places that serve food around the village. We also have many ghosts that wander around, most of them are friendly." He smiles warmly at me. "Okay, I guess you're ready to go then" and with my head still buzzing with questions I followed Arthur out the door, down the hall and too a great big room.
