The hard, cold metal chair under my thighs are creating multiple goose bumps down my legs. I stare at the table oblivious to any sound around me except the sound of my nail tapping against the side of the chair. I keep the beat steady so that I can play everything that happened over in my head and try to come up with my alibi.
I am taken away from my thoughts when a woman swings open the door. I don't recognize her but as I search for her badge I see that it is hanging off her belt which signals "friendly" but that may be an understatement. I straighten my body up a little and drain any and all emotion from my face so that she doesn't sense my fear.
"Talia Edgewood?" she questioned me with a judge mental smirk.
"And you are?"
"I'm detective Ambrose. I work down here at the station with your father. I just have a few questions to ask you about the death of your close friend Aaron Taylor.." I cut her off.
"I don't have to answer anything without my dad being here."
"Actually, your father said that if was okay if I questioned you until he can make it back to the station. Now I would like it if you told me about your friend Aaron." she said beginning to sound Impatient.
"What do you want to know about her?"
"I want to know what your relationship with her was like and if you have any idea of who killed her."
"Aaron was my best friend. We would never do anything to hurt each other. We were always there for each other. When she died.." I slightly stumbled on the word " ..I didn't leave the house for two whole weeks. Aaron was a part of me. I have no clue why anyone would want her gone."
"Unless killing her was to hurt me." I thought to myself."Now about James Elite?" That question took me by surprise but I knew it he was going to come up.
"What?" I asked blatantly.
"James Elite, Aaron's boyfriend before he was found dead just a week after Aaron's death. I heard James and you didn't get along quite well. Care to tell me, why was that?" she said obviously taunting me.
"James was a complete jerk to Aaron but she never realized that. I would try to tell her but she never listened. Eventually I gave up on trying break them up because he made her happy and that's all I ever wanted for her. Yea, James was still a dick but there was nothing I could do about it..."
Her watch begin to beep and she turned clicked the button with an annoyed look.
She stood up. "I know you know a whole lot more than you're telling me and I'm going figure out the details whether from you or not. You can leave now, i'm sure you know your way out."
I got up without saying anything and walked out. When I walked out I saw Daniel sitting in the seats next to the questioning room with his head buried in his hands. I started my way over there when I heard a familiar voice call my name." I turned around slowly on my heels.
"Hi mom!" I said sarcastically. "What are you doing here?"
"Well I called Meredith to see if you guys wanted to come over after school and she told me that you were here. I had to come see how you were holding up because I knew you weren't so well after Aaron's ..you know.."
"Mom, really?"
"Anyway, Meredith told me that you were here and I came as fast as I could to make sure that you were okay." she said rubbing my shoulder. I should have known Meredith was gonna be a little snitch. Meredith was my older sister who lives with my dad and I.
"Thanks mom I'm fine. Have you seen my dad around here." I asked searching around the hall.
"No but Daniel is here and I told him I would give you guys a ride back to school."
"Uh well actually I drove here and I can take Daniel back to the school to get his car but thanks mom, I appreciate it." I said giving her a light hug.
"Okay well I guess I should be on my way. Tell your father I said hello." I nodded and started towards Daniel.
I sat next to him and put my hand on his shoulder. He jumped and removed his hands from his face.
"Dammit Lia you scared the shit out of me. I thought you were my dad." He said rubbing his hands on his pants to wipe away the sweat. I knew when Daniel was nervous because he always have these sweat breakdowns and begins to breath slightly heavier than normal.
"Nope, I'm not your dad sorry." I said trying to make him lighten up. "Do your parents know your here?"
"I hope not. There gonna kill me."
Daniels parents are very strict on him, which you think would make him a good kid but it does the opposite. He gets in trouble with the law all the time. I guess this is different because we're dealing with murder.
"Where are Kevin and Sophie?" I asked trying to change the subject.
They are our other best friends. Kevin, Daniel and Aaron are a year older than me and Sophie, like Meredith; but we were all just as childish. They did everything with us. You could never break us five apart.
"Kevin's dad got him out of questioning some how. He said it wasn't good for him to be stressed before a big football game like today's. And I haven't heard from Sophie all day."
"Hmm.. the perk's of being a lawyers son." I said laughing. "Well I can give you a ride back to school and you can come over if you want, we..." I was cut off in the middle of my sentence.
"Daniel Grey" Ambrose called from the door as she glared at us. I gave him a slight smile and he went in for questioning.
About three minutes after Daniel went in my dad came strolling by.
"Hey hon, how'd it go?" he said sitting next to me.
"You told her it was okay to question me?"
"Well yea. I know my daughter doesn't have anything to hide. We're just trying to help find out who killed your friends."
James was not my friend, just goes to show how much my dad is around.
"Mom was here." I said changing the subject.
"How'd she know you were here. You called her?"
"No she called to check on me and Meredith and Mere told her I was here. And now she's not gonna leave me alone until she thinks I'm okay again. But she did offer me and Daniel a ride back to school after this." I said laughing.
"Well...that's your mother. How's Gabriel?" he said asking about my little brother who lives with my mom.
"I didn't ask. I'm sure he's in school right now."
"Alright, well tell your mother I said hello.." he said standing up.
"Why don't you just talk to her. You guys are worst than teenagers."
"You know what happens when I talk to your mom." he said giving me a look, "I have to get going, I'll see you later." he said kissing my forehead.
It was about ten minutes later when Daniel walked out of the questioning room. He looked like they just sentenced him to the death chair. The whole car ride back to school was quiet.
