Madoka was late. Again. It was her third day of school and she had been late once already. As she was running down the path she noticed two girls form her class. One of them was Sakura Kyoko, the girl with the flaming red hair who had introduced herself to Madoka on her first day. The other one was Miki Sayaka, the girl who was always quiet and never even glanced at Madoka. They were the only two girls in the class who didn't socialize with the others. It was like they only had each other. Madoka slowed down and tried to be as quiet as possible. She didn't want to be creepy, but these girls inticed her. They were different and they bore burdens, she could tell just by looking at them. As she walked, she looked at the ground. She could hear the girls arguing, but she couldn't hear what they were arguing about. Suddenly, they both stopped talking and the girl with red hair, Sakura Kyoko, turned abruptly and stared at Madoka. Madoka stopped moving and her face turned a bright pink just like her hair.
"Oh.. I'm sorry.. I was just walking behind you," She mumbled. "I wasn't listening I promise."
Kyoko's expression lightened. "Hehe, you're that new girl. Madoka right?"
Madoka nodded and looked at the other girl who was smiling.
"Hi," she stepped toward Madoka. "My name is Miki Sayaka. I never got to introduce myself."
Madoka smiled shyly and looked down at the ground again.
"Do you want to walk together?" Kyoko looked at her with a huge grin. Madoka was flustered and didn't know what to say. She nodded and looked up to smile back.
"I would love to!"
As they walked, Madoka listened to the two girls continue to argue. It amused her that sometimes she would laugh out loud, making the other girls stop arguing and laugh with her.
When they were almost to the school, Madoka noticed something move in the trees. She recognized it as one of the girls from her class. The girl from the first day. She was mysterious and had an expression on her that scared Madoka. The girl wasn't looking at Madoka though, she was looking at the two girls with her.
---
Madoka was silent the whole day. The mysterious girl from that morning had never come to class. It worried madoka that maybe she was just seeing things. She didn't stay after school to study with the other girls but instead left right away to go home and get some rest.
"Hey! Madoka!" She heard her name being called as she was walking outside and turned around immediately, expecting that girl to be there. Instead it was Miki Sayaka. She was running toward Madoka rather quickly and waving to her. Madoka smiled and sighed in relief, waving back.
"Hello, Sayaka." She smiled to her and Sayaka smiled back. She stopped running and bent down to catch her breath.
"Where are you headed? Don't you usually stay after school and study with those other girls from class?" Sayaka chuckled and nodded her head toward the building.
Madoka nodded and looked down. "I'm not feeling very well so I'm heading home to get some rest. Today has been kind of weird since this morning."
Sayaka looked worried and touched her forehead. "You seem normal to me.. Well if you change your mind, Kyoko and I were gonna go hang out at the mall if you want to join us." Sayaka smiled widely and put her hand on her hip. "It'll be totally fun."
Madoka smiled back and shrugged. "Maybe that will make me feel better. I would love to."
Sayaka jumped up in excitement. "Come on then. Kyoko is waiting!" She grabbed her wrist and dragged Madoka behind her.
"Where is Kyoko?"
"She always skips the last half of the day. She's weird like that."
As they ran down the sidewalk Madoka laughed at Sayaka's enthusiasm. Out of the corner of her eye she caught someone sitting at a tea table. The girl with the long dark hair. Staring at Sayaka with that evil look in her eyes.
