Sitting in my room
the carpet rough beneath me
Folk music playing
from a CD that my friend made me
as I read a story she wrote
that takes me to another place
A woman with an honest voice
sings of life
"They told me life is hard
It's misery from the start
It's dull and slow and painful
I tell you life is sweet
In spite of the misery"
I am taken away from the worry
the confusion
and the fear
Then the thunder crashes
rattling my bones
A rough jerk back to reality
a reality where I wonder
why I am different
