Prologue:
The sound of water echoed around me, like my own personal orchestra of hell. I opened my eyes and was met with pitch darkness, the smell of must rising to meet my nose. As I struggled to sit up, my hand brushed against the cold concrete below me.
"What to hell..." I groaned. Words, memories, people swarmed by memory but it was like trying to complete a puzzle that was missing the most important piece. Someone running. A high speed chase. The woods.
I tried to shake my head. Isn't that what they always do in the movies? I thought grimly. Unfortunately directors are massive liars and instead of easily removing the cobwebs from my brain, and intense pain shot through my entire body leaving me a quivering mess on the floor. Focus Hailey. Find out where you are. You can be brave and sitting here in this shit of a ... of a jail cell??
Upon my eyes adjusting to the darkness, I had realized I was actually locked in a cell of some type. On the opposite wall, across from the cells (yes there was more than one what was this a serial killer?) looked like a coat rack. Keys hung from the wall as well as knives and other assorted goodies, which I did not want to meet.
Looking over to the far left side of the room I finally realized there was a staircase, a small beam of light illuminating my means of escape. Pull yourself together Hailey. Slowly I cautiously dragged myself to my feet, using the bars of the cell as support. Panting, I gripped onto the bars for dear life, fearing that if I moved the slightest amount, I would be lying helplessly on the floor again.
Suddenly I heard voices. Well more like murmurings of some men. Great! Now not only am I locked up in this fucking cage but I am helpless. I'm going to get fucking raped. I laughed humorously. The amount of apathy I felt at this point was unreal and despite my strength I wasn't going down without a fight.
Still anxious to unravel how I ended up here, I slowly crept closer to the noise, attempting to hear some words.
"She was in the woods sir," said one man, in a gruff but surprisingly caring tone, "we didn't' want to hurt her and we tried to stay hidden but she spotted us." Didn't want to hurt me?!? Too fucking late for that bitches.
"You WHAT!?" said a new man in a lot but authoritative voice. I jumped back startled, falling onto the ground. Memories swarm in front of her vision and suddenly I remembered everything. I swore I'd heard that voice before but couldn't place it.
"I give you one responsibility," the man's voice was rising, "and you can't even follow a order. If you have hurt this poor girl down there, there will be hell to pay."
Suddenly I heard footsteps echoing down the staircase. I crawled back, barely able to lift her head as I felt the movement I was exerting use up all that was left of her energy. The man shuffled around, while his two henchmen warily followed behind. The shuffling stopped. A light was flicked on, and while I had recognized the voice, nothing could have prepared her for this.
I let out a startled gasp, but it ended up sounding more like a whimper because of the pain it brought her. The man's eyes widened, a rare display of true emotion I knew from experience, before he ran to the cell door, grabbing on to it for dear life.
"Hailey, what have they done to you?"
