"Ponyboy, you can't fight in the rumble like that, plus I'm sure Johnny wants to see you in the hospital" you say to your boyfriend Johnny's best friend.

"Y/N I have fought in plenty of rumbles, plus there's no blades or heaters, it's a fair fight"

"Well, I'm going to the hospital to spend time with Johnny, please come after the rumble he's not doing well,"

"Alright," Ponyboy says as you walk out the door. You see Steve and Sodapop in the distance.

"Can one of you take me to the hospital to see Johnny?"

"Sure, the rumble isn't until later" Sodapop says pulling out his car keys. The three of you get in the car and he starts the car.

"How's Johnny been?" Steve asks genuinely concerned.

"Not good," you say looking out the window and holding back tears.

"Oh," Steve looks down. "Johnny's a good kid, he didn't deserve this." You look out the window and start to cry.

"Aw Y/N did I say something?" Steve asks as he puts his arm around you.

"No, I'm fine" you say as you wipe the tears from your face with your sleeve. You pull up to the hospital.

"Tell Johnnycake we said hi," Sodapop said as you get out of the car.

"I will," You say as you walk into the hospital. You walk up to the front desk.

"I'm here to see Johnny Cade."

"His room is right down that way" said the woman behind the desk. You walk to Johnny's room and open the door preparing yourself to see him nearly dead.

"Hi Johnny," you say quietly as you gently kiss him on the cheek.

"Y/N"he said trying to smile. You hold back tears. You have never seen him this weak and helpless in your life.

"How are you feeling Johnnycake?" you ask as you pull up a chair next to his bed.

"It hurts" he could barely make out that sentence. You start crying.

"You should have let those kids burn! Why did you have to be a hero?! You could be fighting in the rumble tonight but you're in a hospital bed!" You start to cry harder.

"I'm sorry" He barely choked out. You cry looking at him lying in that hospital bed, helpless, dying.

"Soda and Steve said hi," You tell Johnny. Johnny cracks a smile.

"I've missed them" You can tell he's close to crying. The next thing you know Ponyboy and Dally come into the room smiling.

"Hi guys" Johnny chokes out.

"We won the rumble Johnny!" Ponyboy said smiling from ear to ear. Johnny smiled weakly.

"Johnny, you should've been there man" Dally said. Suddenly Johnny started to slip in and out of consciousness.

"Ponyboy," Johnny said weakly and Ponyboy put his ear near Johnny so he could hear his possible last words. "Stay gold Ponyboy, Stay gold." Ponyboy started crying.

"I will man," Ponyboy said as tears streamed down his face.

"Y/N come here," he kissed you. "I love you," he said then all of the life drained out of him and he died. You, Dally and Ponyboy sat there silently crying for a second.

"Damn it Johnny don't die!" Dally said screaming at the lifeless body.
