Being a princess isn't as easy as most people would think. You have so many things to worry about as well as trying to steer your life in the right direction. Nothing is easy, actually. The past fifteen years of my life has been quite a roller coaster, I don't even know where to start. Well then, let's start with the most important man in my life: my father. My father was a very wise King. The people of our Kingdom respected him and were loyal to him. My father married my mother when he was twenty years old and had my older brother a few years later. About four years after that, they had me. We were a wonderful family, looking out for each other, helping each other out, and of course being there for each other. But a week before my thirteenth birthday, my father caught a horrible disease. We did everything we could to find a cure, but with no such luck. He was able to live for a while longer, but for the safety of the Kingdom, my brother was made King, since he was the heir. A few days after I turned thirteen, my father breathed his last breath. The entire Kingdom mourned for him, and I just lost the most important man of my life.
Now, two years since he died, I have reached the age to begin looking for a suitor who will be my future husband. My brother rules the Kingdom alongside my mother and he won't be seeking a wife for a while since my mother still has the right to continue being Queen. She hasn't been the same ever since my father left, but who could blame her. I know my father would want me to find a suitor so that I can have someone who will protect me. My brother, Will, can't always be my side since he is now King, so I must find someone soon. I don't know if I could find someone who can love me.
"Hurry Lorena!" my nurse yells at me. "You're going to be late for your studies again! My goodness, I leave for a few minutes and you haven't moved an inch! Come on!"
"I'm ready!" I dash out of my bedroom and I practically collide into my personal guard, also my best friend, Jem. "Oof! Oh, Jem, I'm terribly sorry."
"Running late again, Your Highness?" he smiles. He wears a black eyepatch over his left eye since he is blind on that side. His hair is dark brown and long on the top while it's short on the sides of his head, so his hair on top falls a little over his eyepatch. "I was beginning to wonder what took you so long."
"Well thanks to Anna, I'm up with barely any time to make it to my studies."
"We better get going then."
My entourage of guards, consisting of Jem, three other guards and my Nurse, Anna, are ready to walk with me. Anna comes out of my room with my tiara in her hand and she places it back on my head.
"Now you're ready to go," she says.
We walk quickly to the Royal Study where my tutor was waiting patiently. I enter by myself while everyone else either waits outside or perform other duties around the palace. Jem tells me that he will be back before my studies are over because he needs to run errands on the other side of the castle. I say farewell and proceed inside.
"Almost late again, Your Highness," my tutor says. "When are you going to go back in to your old habit of coming early."
"When my father is alive," I respond sourly. I know I shouldn't be speaking that way, but it's true that I began coming to my studies late ever since my father passed away.
My tutor just ignored my comment and began my lessons. She gave me a textbook about the history of my family. I scan through it, knowing she would be testing me on it after a while. My studies last about four hours with a fifteen minute break in between. It's not that bad if that's what you're thinking. It's better than having to go to an actual school for seven hours. At least, in my opinion that is. Most of the time, I just day dream about getting married one day. I know, I'm only fifteen, but I am looking for suitors who are fit to become my future husband.
