The One For Me <3

Chapter Two

"What are you talking about Landen?" I say, kind of confused. "I've known Jem pretty much all my life and I know that he is loyal to me."

"I know it can be hard to believe, but I saw with my own two eyes that Jem was making a plan with other people to kidnap you," Landen said to me.

"That's ridiculous! What on earth are you talking about?"

"I swear I'm telling you the truth. I heard them talking about it. Come, maybe they're still at it."

I shake my head in disbelief. Jem has been serving my family for as long as I could remember. There is no way that he is trying to betray me and my family.

"I'm sorry but there is just no way I can believe that. Please leave."

"But Lorena-"

"Please, before I call my guards."

He puts on a tight smile and then left my room without another word. I shake my head in disbelief. For some reason I couldn't keep in my curiosity so I headed to the soldiers quarters. Thankfully no one was around as I headed towards Jem's chambers. I hesitate at his door, but after a few moments I knock on his door. 

The door opens and Jem comes out in his slacks and a white shirt. His hair was damp so he must've just taken a shower.

"Oh Lorena," he says surprised. "I uh what can I do for you dear?"

"Uhm well I was wondering if I can talk to you about something."

"Sure. Come in."

I enter his room which was a little smaller than my own. It was clean and smelled like, well, Jem. I take a seat on his bed while he pulls a chair from his desk and sits in front of me.

"So what is it we need to talk about?" he asks.

"Uhm well about ..."

"Landen?"

"Yes. He said something to me a while ago in my room. I didn't know whether I should belive it or not."

"What did he say to you?"

"He uh." I bite my lip. How was I suppose to word this without accusing him of anything. "He was talking about you."

"Me? Why? What did he say?"

"H-have you been up to something recently Jem?"

"Wh-what? No!" He stands up so suddenly that his chair falls back. "I  would never! You do trust me don't you Lorena? I'll do anything to protect you not hurt you."

"I know but I just wanted to tell you that. Landen suspected something from you."

He sighs. "Well there's nothing I can do about that but prove that I'm loyal to you."

"Thank you Jem." I stand up and nod to him. "Well then. Thank you and goodnight."

"Goodnight Lorena." He bows and opens the door for me. I exit and head back to my chambers. Once I was inside my room, I let out a sigh of relief. That's over. A knock on the door scares me and I scream. "Eeep!"

I open the door in a frantic and calm down when I saw Anna. "My goodness you're very jumpy this evening Lorena."

"Sorry. Well I'm ready for bed. I'm going to sleep early."

"As you wish."

I was dreamless that evening. All I saw was darkness and it sayed like that for a very long time. Then I heard someone calling my name.

"-ena! Lorena! LORENA!"

I opened my eyes and I couldn't breathe properly. I started coughing really badly and my eyes were watery. There was smoke everywhere and it was very hot. I got out of my bed and and realized that I was trapped. 

"Jem! Landen? Mom? Will!!" I scream. A hand grabs me from behind and I turn and I see Jem's worried eyes looking at me.

"Lorena! There you are!"

The flames were everywhere and Jem dragged me towards the door. He opened it and more flames were biting at us.

"We can't go this way!" I say to him.

"We can't. You will," he responds. Then he pushes me in and I scream in terror.

I sit up in bed sweating and my heart pounding so fast. Anna was holding both of my arms and Jem was at the foot of my bed.

"Lorena, are you alright?" Anna asks. She hugs me and I stare at Jem. He gives me a worried look, but I don't hold his gaze. My heart is still beating very fast and Jem's face in my dream appears. I shiver with fright.
