••••••••••"It's all a lie." The words so softly rolled off her tongue.
She leaned back and continued to run the comb down the child's wet hair. Each strand being stretched and straightened until the comb runs off the bottom of the strands, the ends then curling into little ringlets.
"There is no such thing as it simply does not exist."
Her humming once again drifted throughout the spacious room, echoing and creating its own tune. The child drooped her head downwards, fumbling with her tiny fingers as the woman continued to comb through her damp tresses.
As she sat the comb on the bed, the woman let out an exasperated sigh.
"Look at me,"
When the child did not comply, she turned her around and hooked her finger under her lowered chin. Meeting the woman's gaze, the child's big brown eyes held a new disappointment.
"You won't find him. He is not waiting for you far or near- his love is not true."
Her bitter tone made the little girl sniffle and with that the woman grasped her chin more forcefully.
"Your life is not a fairy tale. This silly, little idea," she tapped lightly on the child's temple, "that you have in your tiny, little mind- is pathetic. You need to realize that."
"Now," stroking the small child's hair, she kissed her forehead, "go tuck yourself in, I have more important matters to attend to. Use this alone time to evaluate yourself. It's the one thing you'll always have."
And with that, the young toddler led herself to her own bed in which she had- in fact- tucked herself into.
