Logan's P.O.V.
I sat at my desk, browsing YouTube on my iMac while checking my Pinterest account on my iPhone 6s. Nobody was home. Not even Skye, my sister. Skye is fourteen. She mostly stays home. She never invites friends over. Never! My mom and dad work a lot so they aren't around much. My brother, Tyler is in college. He comes back for Christmas and other festivities. My room was roasting. I turned off the iMac and put my phone in my pocket. I got up from my white desk chair and left my wooden desk. My room was a decent size. My white painted walls had no dirt on them. I made sure of that! My double bed and my black wardrobe were the only big pieces of furniture apart from my desk. I had black shelving units also.
I left my room and walked down the stairs. To my surprise Skye was sitting at the breakfast bar, eating toast while on her Macbook. I thought nobody was home. I thought wrong. No doubt she was on Pinterest. "Hey..." Skye didn't even look at me. "Hey, whats up?" I took out the toaster and put bread in it. "Nothin' much. Just tired and a bit s- WHAT!? PAIGE UN-FOLLOWED ME ON PINTEREST!?" Skye raged. "THAT'S IT!" Skye shut down the laptop and ran out the door with her handbag and hoodie. As she was running out the door, I couldn't help but notice that Skye was in PJ's. I was going to ask about them but the door shut as my mouth opened. The toast popped. I took a plate out of the high cupboard and placed the toast onto it. Skye had left the butter melting at the breakfast bar, so I decided not to put butter on the toast. I sat on one of the breakfast bar stools and opened up Skye's laptop. Her profile picture on Pinterest was Her in a selfie with Paige, her friend. I guess. I don't know why I've never seen Paige in our house. Skye had dark blue eyes and straight black hair. She was pretty short for a fourteen year old. Paige had wavy blonde hair and hazel brown eyes. In the picture Paige was wearing a glossy lipstick, the same as Skye was wearing in the picture and this morning. Makeup and PJ's. Great choices. I clicked to see her followers. Paige was her first follower out of five hundred and sixty-eight. Skye said Paige un-followed her. Why is Paige following her if she said she wasn't? Where was Skye going? I panicked in the thought of her meeting someone or doing something she's not supposed to do. I got up and left the toast half eaten. I ran up the stairs and into Skye's room. Her magenta walls were disturbing in my opinion. Our rooms had the same layouts but different colours and stuff in them. Her phone was on her bedside table. I grabbed it and as I ran down the stairs and searched for Paige's number. I found it in her recent messages and copied it into my phone. I called the number. Someone picked up. Paige, I assumed.
"Hello?" I asked, pacing around the room. "Hi. Who is this?" Paige's voice asked. I only knew it was Paige's voice because I've seen her around school, hanging out with everyone but Skye. "It's Logan. Skye's brother. Is she with you, Paige?" I panicked. "Yeah! Yeah! She's with me. Skye is fine," Paige laughed. "Thank god. Okay, well, I've gotta go," I ended the conversation. "Okay, bye... I guess." Paige hung up.
I was relieved. I didn't bother asking about the whole 'Un-Following' thing. I wanted to go outside. The house was stuffy. I got changed, out of my grey t-shirt and black bottoms and into a red t-shirt with a black hoodie and denim jeans with black converse. My phone was in my pocket, my black quiff was perfect. I hoped. I was ready. I opened the front door and unleashed the sunny town of Howth. The smell was amazing. My family live right next to the water. Boats were sailing out and sailing in. Benches were full of people and fish and chips shops were crowded. I walked out the door and shut it behind me. I started to walk. After walking for ten minutes I crossed the road. I sat on a bench beside the playground full of five and six year old children. I took out my phone and started to play Candy Crush. I was on level ninety-three. Going on ninety-four.
I was half way through level ninety-three when some called my name. "Logan?" A voice asked. I looked around the bench. A girl was waling towards me. Nicole McCarthy. "Nicole?" I asked back. She sat down on the bench beside me. "I didn't know you live around here," Nicole said. I wasn't concentrating on what Nicole was saying. I was too busy looking at her. She was wearing black leggings, denim short shorts, a white t-shirt with a denim jacket and black boots. Nicole had green eyes and brown layered hair. "Oh! Yeah, I live down the street," I finally answered. "Cool, so what are you doing out here?" She smiled. "I needed some air," I looked at boats sail off, into the distance. "It's beautiful," She said. "Hm?" I asked. "The boats and the water and the... Everything!" She nodded towards the water. "Yep. Pretty nice," I smiled. "Well, I should get going, see you around?" Nicole got up. "Yeah. See you around," I stared. "Bye." Nicole walked off. I liked Nicole. She was pretty.
It was getting late. I decided to go home. So I walked home for the night.
Skye wasn't home when I arrived. The lights were off. I walked upstairs and turned on my iMac. My YouTube page I was browsing from this morning. I browsed until ten o'clock and then heard the floorboards creak outside my room. I rushed up and looked on the landing. Skye's bedroom door had just closed. I wasn't in the mood for arguing about lying to me about the Pinterest thing and hanging out with Paige.
I plopped into my bed and fell into a sleep with my clothes still on and my bedroom door open.
I woke up at around 4AM. My door was more open than I left it. It was extremely cold. I lifted my phone from my bedside table. The screen was too bright, which caused me to drop it on my nose. "Ugh! Dammit!" I rolled over, making the phone fall off of my head. I heard noises. I did not know where they were coming from though. I got up, out of bed. I held my phone in one hand and picked up my bedside lamp and held it in the other hand. My hoodie was creased because of the way I fell asleep. I walked out to the landing. Skye had just come out of her room. I was about to hit her over the head with the lamp, but luckily I didn't. "Jesus! What the hell?! Logan!" Skye backed up. "Sorry, I panicked," I put the lamp on the floor. "Heh, okay then. But anyway, all seriousness. My window was open," Skye said. I peered in her room. Her current aims were waving everywhere. "Damn!" I turned my phone's flashlight on. Skye ran into her room and picked up her phone. "Let's go," Skye said. I started to move down the stairs. They creaked. Skye was following from behind me. I pointed my phone ahead of me. I reached the end of the stairs and leaned against the wall. So did Skye. I moved up the wall and looked into the kitchen. There was a squirrel on the breakfast bar, eating fruit out of the fruit bowl. I stopped leaning against the wall and walked inside. Skye followed. "Awwww! It's so cute!" Skye smiled. The squirrel jumped of the breakfast bar on ran over to Skye. "New pet?" I joked. "Yep," Skye grabbed some nuts from the cupboard. "I wasn't serious," I paused. "Well I am," Skye knelt down and fed it. "Skye..." I walked closer. "Her name is Squirrel~Chan," She laughed. I said nothing and motioned Skye to go to bed. She picked up Squirrel~Chan and ran upstairs. I didn't accept the squirrel staying here but it wasn't worth it. I left my phone in the kitchen and walked upstairs.
I had just got into bed when I heard glass smash. I jumped up and ran down the stairs. "What the hell!" I looked at the back door window. Skye ran down the stairs with Squirrel~Chan. "Oh my god! What happened!?" She stopped beside me. "It wasn't just Squirrel~Chan down here..." I said. "Who else?" Skye asked. I didn't answer and was about to pick my phone off the breakfast bar but... It wasn't there. "Skye. Do you have your phone?" I asked. "Yeah, I'm calling the police. Don't worry," She dialed and then walked out to the hall to talk. I walked closer to the smashed glass. There was blood on a shard of glass. I picked up the shard and put it over a cup, which was on our island. The blood dripped into it. Perfect. I put the cup in the cupboard and closed it.
The police arrived awhile later. I opened the door to let them in. The two guards who were standing outside were females. They were both very slim. One had blonde hair and a fringe with a small pony tail at the back. The other was tanned and had curly ombré hair. She was wearing red lipstick also. "Hello. Im officer Hader. Cara Hader," Said the blonde one. "And I'm officer Maxine Croft," Said the other guard. "Hi. My sister called you. Right?" I asked. "Yes. A break in?" Officer Cara asked back. "Yep. Follow me," I sighed.
I led them into the kitchen and showed them the blood in the cup. "Well, we'll bring it down to the station and get it checked out. To see if it matches anyone," Maxine said. Skye came down the stairs with Squirrel~Chan in her arms. "Everything okay?" She asked. "Yeah. I guess..." I answered.
Officer Haden and Croft left after that. They brought the blood with them. I hoped they'd find whose blood it was. Skye had called our parents to come home early. I left her to do her thing while I crawled up the stairs and got into bed. Damn. I was cold. I heard Skye come up the stairs five minutes later. She looked into my room and I looked into hers. As she was walking away I asked, "Well?"
"Well... What?" She asked.
