A Walk to School

19 1 2

I walk down the barren streets,

Silent save the sound of my feet

6:57 in the morning and the street lamps are still bright,

Acting as a barricade between dawn and night.

The sky a gloomy, pale gray,

Nobody else goes this way

Leaves cover the empty road

And make my shoes wet beneath my toes.

Imperfect lawns with imperfect grass,

And, yet again, with a great big mass

Of leaves, everywhere they've spread,

One even rests atop my head.

Turn the corner to the left,

The silence that's been so far kept

Evaporates with the passing of a car.

School is not very far.

I pass by houses I've seen daily

The same thing consecutively can drive one crazy!

An extra turn, today the plan

Sets in motion, if my weak heart can.

Hide inside a deep dark ditch.

Hope it's not me they'll miss.

Find the gun, hold to my head, pull the trigger,

No longer here shall I linger

My head everywhere, life unspooled,

I finally finished my walk to school.
