I shot up out of my sleep, my breathing heavy and a cold sweat pouring off my skin. I looked around remembering where I am. Feeling relief, I look at the time on the alarm clock next to my bed. It was just after 6AM. Seeing there was no point to going back to sleep, I pulled my blankets back and got out of bed.

I made my way into the kitchen. I put the coffee machine on knowing my younger sister will be up soon to get ready for her first day at her new school. I grab myself a glass and the orange juice out of the refrigerator and poured myself a drink. I don't like coffee, so I stick to orange juice or herbal tea depending on my mood.

I made myself some toast for breakfast and sit down at the breakfast bar to eat it, enjoying the silence before my busy day started. The first thing on my list of things to do today is find somewhere that's hiring in this small town. I didn't need the job right now since my inheritance would cover everything for the next few months but I need to be working. I need to keep myself busy.

I didn't realize how much time had passed until I saw Melina, my seventeen year old sister, walk into the kitchen, going straight for the coffee pot and a mug.

"Good Morning, Sunshine." I smile at her after she's taken her first sip of the hot black liquid she calls Heaven.

"I'm surprised to see you awake." She says as she makes her breakfast while drinking her first cup of coffee. "Was it the nightmare again?"

I nod and finished my drink. I took my dishes to the sink, rinsed them off and put them into the dishwasher. "But just like every other day I'm going to put it behind me and get on with my day."

"Or you could finally talk about it." She said sitting in the spot where I sat before with her breakfast and almost empty mug.

"You have enough to deal with, you don't need my troubles on top of yours." I tell her.

"You shouldn't feel guilty, he had it coming to him. It was either going to be you or him and I'm glad it was him." She says.

"I'm going to go have a shower and get dressed." I say before walking up the stairs to the bathroom joined to my bedroom.

After my shower, I get dressed into a pair of black jeans and a purple sleeveless blouse. I found my favorite pair of black ankle boots and put them on. I applied a little make-up, only the basics – eyeliner mascara and a little lip gloss. I decided to leave my hair down today, not feeling like tying it up. Once I was ready, I come downstairs to see Melina dressed and ready for school.

"Are you sure you don't want me to take you to school?" I ask her as I grabbed my handbag, phone and keys.

"I'm sure," She smiles, reassuringly. The last few months have been hard for us. It was only us two left and I needed to make sure Melina was going to be safe. I couldn't let anything happen to her. She's still innocent in this messed up world we live in. I know she's found me a little overbearing the last few months but I couldn't help it. "So stop worrying so much and enjoy your day. Let me someone else's responsibility for a couple hours."

I give her a small smile. "Fine but call or text me if anything happens."

"You know me, I will." she gives me a quick hug before walking out the door. I follow her out, locking the door behind me. I watch her drive away before I started the walk to the town center.

Today is the start of our first real day in Mystic Falls. Our first real day of our new lives.
