I guess most kids don't move 11 hours from home when they just graduate but I'm not like most kids. I'm optimistic, love book, love to have fun. Well I guess the last one is like other teens. I'm not one of those teens who are like 'oh my god, I am so Misunderstood.'
I was always working hard to meet my parents super high standards set for me. I guess they wanted me to make up for Noah dropping out of high school in 12th grade. He wanted to chase an impossible dream. He wanted to become an army man. Well it's not impossible because he did it.
My younger sister Makayla Collins is much smarter than I am. She was born that way. She wouldn't study she would look at her books for five minutes than go to sleep. She did homeschooling. She was already headed to the university of British Columbia. Which was quite far from our small town in Alberta. She was only 16.
Let's stop talking about my unreasonably smart sister and brother who was braver than my whole family put together.
I was excepted to my university of choice, University of London, a very fancy establishment. I am going to university to study sociology. Yeah well I know it's a big topic. Why is society so messed up. We all know it the people who think they are perfect but they are not.
"Grey are you almost ready" makayla came in and asked.
"Yeah" I said.
My room was empty. I already had all my stuff sent there. I had a job lined up already. I was living in a to an apartment with one of my English friends.
"I'm gonna miss you" she said. She walked over to me and hugged me. I hugged her back.
"You'll have fun at college" I said. "Drink, play beer pong, find a boyfriend, don't let players play you, you break people's hearts."
"Make sure you do the same" she said into my neck.
"Grey" my mum called "makayla"
"Coming"we yelled. We raced down up the stairs.
I always lived in the basement. I would rather live alone in the basement than live upstairs with my parents constantly nagging me. When I moved in the basement their visits got less and less frequent.
"We have to leave in 30 minutes you should go say goodbye to your friends" my mum said.
Yes I called my mum the euopeon mom instead of the American or Canadian mom.
"I'll be back soon" I yelled.
My best friend Anna Marie lived 2 houses down. We grew up together. No matter what happened we would always be there for each other. Anna Marie was also going to university, but she was going to New York. She wanted to be a motivational speaker.
When we were growing up I promised her we'd work together someday. She would always talk for me. I was never good with words. She said she would present my finding on the experiment I was doing so I didn't have to talk.
I walked the short walk and knocked on the door. Abigail, Anna's little sister answered.
"Anna, grey is here" she yelled. I heard Anna run to the door.
"Abigail don't make her stay outside invite her in" Anna's accent was strong. She car from Mexico in 7th grade. She didn't speak English I taught her. She taught me Spanish.
"Anna" I yelled running into her arms. "I'm gonna miss you"
"We can Skype and talk on the phone everyday" she said.
"Okay" I was optimistic about this. We needed each other. I saw I had to leave. "Goodbye I love you" I let go and so did she. She didn't say goodbye. I left.
The sad fact is that I knew I wouldn't talk to her. She would be busy and so would I. We would probably text from time to time. Only the usual 'hi how are you' 'oh I'm great' than we would not talk for a while. It's sad how the word friend gets tossed around. Friends doesn't mean we'll always talk it means I know your always there.
When I got home my mum checked over everything and we left. The sad thing about it all is that I wasn't gonna miss my family. I've lived with them forever. I have to be free.
When we got to the airport my mum started to cry. I rolled my eyes. Why did she care? She always said she could wait till I left so she could work on her shining star. Makayla,
"I'm gonna miss you" she said.
"And I you" I said. She looked at me.
"I'll miss you grey" my sister came and hugged me.
"We'll all miss you grey" my dad joined the family hug.
"I should go I don't want to miss my flight" I said. They all let go.
I went inside. I had my phone in my hand. When I finally got on the plane I looked out the window. Here I come London.
