"Holy shit these are good!"
I grin and slip Sean's beer from his hand and take a long drink before he notices and takes it back, away from me. "Of course they're good. I made them."
"Don't get cocky. I have a friend that likes to cook. She could easily make some that taste like this."
The new guy-Nate-proved he was worth my time when he stood up to me, which is something most guys don't have the balls to do. "Really? Ill have to meet this person."
"Her brother doesn't let her come to places like this."
Normally, I would be offended. But, if this person's brother was anywhere near as cute as Nate, I'd let it slide. "What does he look like?"
"Dark hair. About six foot five. I bet you'd like him."
"Any chance I'd be able to meet the person who grills like me and her brother tonight?" I just met this guy and I already know I can screw with him. Sean's arm tightens around me and I grin.
"Sure. I'm supposed to take you home anyway."
Nodding, I take out my phone and text Jason, knowing he probably won't text back.
Me: I'm going out to eat and I'm staying the night with a friend. Promise I won't be late for school.
As expected, he didn't text back and I didn't care. Sean clears his throat-loudly-and I fix my gaze on Nate. "Oh, don't worry about Sean. He gets offended, even though I'm not dating him."
Sean's face turns red at this and I grin, hopping to my feet. I had drank my own beer and I took another. I was already buzzing. Tonight would be great. "When will we go?"
"As soon as you want."
"Now's good. I can go now." I stand on my toes and plant a kiss on Sean's lips and he holds me against him for a minute before whispering so softy that only I could hear.
"Be careful. Don't do anything too stupid."
"I know. I'll text you or call you so you can come get me. I promise." I hug him-something I sure as hell don't do if I'm sober, unless my brother hugs me-and I slip out the door to join Nate, who was leaning against a Mustang. A 1996 to be exact. "She's gorgeous."
He shrugs and I get inside. This is the car of my dreams. I bet he doesn't know almost anything about this beauty. "It was my dad's."
"It's a fucking masterpiece!"
"You can drive it sometime if you want."
I could barely hide my excitement. Me. Ride a '96 Mustang! "Cool! I'd love to."
The car purrs beneath me as Nate pulls out and starts driving.
