Fireworks [ShikaTema/Shikamari]

Shikamaru took her by the hand, smiling and leading her through the windy little town of Konohagakure no Seto- the Village Hidden in the Leaves. Her eyes looked around curiously, taking in all of the sights that had seemingly drastically changed since her last visit from Sunagakure no Seto- the Village Hidden in the Sands. Like usualy, her blonde hair was done up in her four spikey piggytails but her cold demeanour had noticeably been left at home.

"Your village is so beautiful at night," she commented.

He cracked a smile, rubbing the nape of his neck with his free hand.

"I just wish it could be this nice during the day... What a drag," the Nara replied.

Temari, sister of the Kazekage, smiled up at her boyfriend. Sometimes, he was just so... Well, he was kinda cute when he messed with the back of her neck like that and his catch phrase had genuinely grown on her. Since the two of them had been together, their personalities had began shifting. Shikamaru, who thought that almost everything was a drag or just a waste of time, had stopped being so lazy and his body was presently as active and functional as his sharp mind. During his missions out of his home village, he'd even make detours to drop by and surprise his beau. Now, Temari had softened up considerably. Originally, she only ever cared for her two brothers- Gaara and Kankuro. When she journeyed to the Leaf for the Chunin Exams, Temari had initially had her eyes on Sasuke Uchiha. He ignored her existence, though, like the young Uchiha always did to people who won't Naruto or Itachi- both of whom he tried to kill several times, succeeding in the long awaited assassination of his elder brother whom suffered from a terminal illness his entire life.

"What are you thinking about now?" Shikamaru saw the faraway look in her eyes.

She shook her head, clearing her thoughts.

"I'm just trying to unravel the mystery with which I have been presented. What's so special about this date that my brother had to pardon me from all missions for three years? Don't you think that that's a tad bit too long? We're not time traveling, are we?"

"Nope, but I've got plans."

Temari was curious to say the least.

"Any hints?"

"No."

"ShikaShika, please?" she batted her eyes, pressing against his long arm.

"What a drag... You know how much I hate that nickname."

"Would you prefer that I call you Pineapple Head?"

"Not in the slightest."

"Then 'fess up or the terrible nicknames will continue, and I can think of some seriously horrible ones," she shot him a playful glare.

"Just wait a few more minutes, okay?" he sighed.

"Hmmm.... Fine."

With his lady now appeased for the moment, he took her to the edge of Hokage Rock and sat down next to her though she stood for a few confusing minutes. Upon sitting, she cuddled into his warm chest and sighed in content. Just as she was considering the option of taking a nap, something loud shot into the sky. Her instincts screamed danger, but Shikamaru kept an arm around her waist that held her still. When she shot him the next look, it wasn't even remotely playful. However, it melted when her eyes met his and she saw just how close that they were- close enough to feel his warm breath tickle her nose and cheeks as he eyed her lips. Without missing a beat, she glued her mouth to his and kissed him with such sincere passion that he thought that they were going to die up there.

And then the sky was full with brilliant colours, their vivid strikes connecting the Heavens to the Earth.

Fireworks.

He had taken her to a fireworks display.

Pulling away, Shikamaru got to his feet and brushed off his pants before extending an offered hand towards his lover.

She accepted it, confused but pleased with the way that the night was progressing.

"Temari, will you marry me?" he handed her a ring.

Her eyes widened as she responded, "Yes!"

Carefully, he took her hand and slid the jewellery in place.

"So, the three years will go like this: First, we spend three months planning your dream wedding. Then we-"

"Shut up and kiss me, ShikaPina," she mashed her face into his.

When the pulled apart, they embraced one another tightly and just stood there in each other's arms as the grand finale started.

It was truly a beautiful night.
