I tip my flask back and forth on the rugged surface of wood as I wait for the Omega to come back.

Good morning, Hudson

It's the middle of the afternoon, not morning.

Time is a human construct, and in this case, fluid. Anyway, good afternoon. The Author's voice seems lighter than usual today.

Did something good happen to make it a good afternoon?

I got some exciting news this morning, that's all. Why aren't you talking?

I don't want to scare the Omega away.

Are you hunting?

Yes. Now, unless you want me to miss them, you should shut up.

Mean.

I'm not paid to be nice.

No, you're paid to kill people.

I prefer not to think of Omegas as people.

You said they weren't monsters, either.

They're not people or monsters. They are their own existence. If you wanted to label them as something other than Omega, call them a menace.

This is starting to remind me of Spiderman...

I'm going to start ignoring everything I don't understand.

How narrow-minded. So, who's the Omega?

If you wait a few minutes they might show up again.

Hm.

There's a good few minutes before I hear the sound of feet on wood, slowly approaching the small alcove I've tucked myself away in. I lean the flask against the side of the alcove and silently slip a small device into my hand from my sleeve.

Pat, pat, pat... pat...

The moment I see the slightest outline of a figure and watch it pass through boundaries only I know of, my finger twitches, and an electric shock courses through the wires I had set up earlier. The first time I had been here, it had been easy to mark the area the energy would be directed, the charge prompted by the remote in my hand.

The Omega, halfway inside the boundaries, writhes and makes a screeching sound I've become used to when dealing with this type of creature. I'm sure that when I let the barrier separating me from the Omega I'll be able to smell the distinct scent of burning flesh.

What are you doing? The Author sounds a little frantic, her voice quicker and higher than usual. Turn it off!

"The Omega's still alive." I'm free to speak now that the Omega is making more noise than I am. "I won't turn it off until it's dead."

Stop it! I don't care if you don't see them as a person or an animal, they're a living being. I don't even care if you're killing them, just don't do it like that!

The Omega lets out another scream-like noise.

"This is how it works."

No, this isn't!

I give the barrier more power. In a matter of seconds, the sound from the Omega ceases.

What the hell?

I flick the switch that disables the barrier in front of me. Like I'd thought, the smell is very strong.

Hey! Don't ignore me, dammit!
