So this is just a little one shot to get myself back into the groove of writing. These are two of my original characters, the male's name is Aiden and is a vampire. The female's name is Claire who is an angel. Anywho, read away.

He could see the absolute fear within her eyes, it was haunting. Every time he blinked he saw the looks she would give him. She was in pain he could obviously tell. He knew that the hours he spent with her know where possibly limited. As if her life was hanging by a thread. But it hurt him, and he absolutely hated it when she could see past his masked face and see the pained little boy behind it.

It was very rarely Claire couldn't see past the mask he wore upon his face, she almost always could see past his fake happiness and see the real and true pain he would always hide. But what would happen when she left? Who would then be able to unmask him and see just exactly how much pain he was in?

He would be completely and utterly alone.

So right now all he could do is hold her. He held her as close as he physically could. He cradled her in his arms as they lay on the couch, pretending as if they were the only two people left in the world and nothing could bother them. And in his world, they were the only two people that existed. She was the only girl within his world.

And he could feel her slipping away from him. Her body began relaxing in his arms, her breathing had become noticeably slower than before. He felt his mask slipping off from his face as he heard her heartbeat sound throughout his ears. It was slow, soft and delicate sound. Her facial features were soft, as if made out of the softest material. Tufts of her brown hair fell around her heart shaped face.

She looked peaceful and in no pain, but Aiden know that a war was raging inside of her body. The vampire's venom was raging inside of her, destroying her. The enemy nest had know what they were doing, they were stronger than he thought. And he hadn't got to her in time and he was beating himself up inside for it.

Killing her, it was slowly killing her before his eyes.

He could feel her slipping further as the night went on. At one point she had woke up screaming bloody murder, tears pouring down her face. The venom was causing her more and more pain to the point it was waking her up, it got worse as the hours went by. Slowly, one by one, her family gathered around her as she slept. Whispering sweet words that he knew wouldn't reach her ears, for her mind was to far gone to retrieve those sweet nothings.

But he never once moved from his spot as her protecter. His arms stayed wrapped around her small frame, hopefully giving her a sense of never completely being alone. The tears never once stopped rolling down his cheeks as he faced the window, watching the bright sun rise.

The sun was rising, signaling the start to a brand new day. But for Claire it was representing the ending of her days. Aiden felt her breaths become slower, her heartbeat become slower as well. And then all at once it just,

Stopped.

He felt her body go still, no breaths coming from her soft pink lips. He could no longer hear the soft beating of her heart in his ears, she was gone. As the sun had risen, Claire had receded. As the sun's bright glow lit up the sky Claire's bright light faded, leaving his world dark. Aiden let out a choked sob, drawing everyone's attention toward him.

Their faces dropped as they realized what had just happen within the past few minutes. Their daughter, their sister, his lover,

Had just taken her last breath.

So I know it's not long and it's probably not my best but I'm back in the groove and I'm ready to continue my stories. Thanks for reading!
