''Payton!!!'' a voice rudely disturbs me from my sleep downstairs.
''Payton Tallan!'' the voice booms again, making me jolt upright and growl internally. Why so freaking early? Why?
''What?!'' I shout back, dragging myself out of my warm covers and into the hallway angrily.
''Get up, kiddo! First day back to your school! Do you remember some of your old friends?'' My dad asks with a cheesy grin from the bottom of the steps, wiping his hands with a dish towel that signals he's cooking.
''I guess so.'' I murmur, scratching my bed tossed hair and blinking the sleep away.
''Great! Well get ready. Carly will be here half an hour times. Kay, bud?'' he says, stepping away from the stairs and into the kitchen happily.
My dad had this wierd military thing going since of course he was in the military. He had a shaved buzz cut hairstyle and was massively built. He's about six foot three and very stern looking, but looks can be very decieving.
My mother on the other hand left us when I was seven years old and even though I was a young girl, I remember it so clearly that I break out in tears when I even think about it.
Her exact words,''I just feel that I need to get on with my life! And I won't have the two of you to ruin it!'' she screams, than drastically runs out of my house.
Those words stabbed through my heart like a dagger would a thousand times and tended to repeat over and over until I felt numb. But hey, she got on with her life and got what she deserved ..so I'm happy for her. Not.
When I was 10, I met a girl my age and she seemed really sweet. I saw her a couple of times on the playground, laughing or having a good time with her friends. She was actually very popular and knew just about everyone. Of course I got picked on about anything I did or even what I looked like.
Oh yes. I got majorly picked on, twice a day..maybe even more. I always wore pigtails and big green circle glasses that made my nose twice the size it really looked. People called me Ugly Betty due to my braces, and the clothing I used to wear that my dad would buy me seemed endless. Turtlenecks and khacki pants.
That's when Carly came in and totally stood up for me one day when two boys called me names.
''Don't worry. Those jerks have nothing else better to do. '' she frowns. ''I'm Carly! But you can call me Carls.'' she says brightly, while showing me a one toothless smile and offering a hand to help me up. ''I'm Payton..'' I sniffed, wiping the tears and dirt from my face.
''Well Payton, It's great that I've finally met you,'' And we've been best friends ever since..
But there is one little teeny tiny thing that also came into my life right after I befriended Carly. The one person that I despise greatly. Her older brother, Elliot. He was the cruelest, rudest...well..you get the point. Every horrible name in the dictionary or ever written is meant to describe him! I hated him.
He was about twelve and just wanted to make my almost perfect childhood a living hell, which he sure was practically controlling. When I turned fourteen, I moved to Long Island, New York due to my Father being transfered there for work. Leaving Carly was heartbreaking but for the most part I didn't have to worry about Elliot.
Just last weekend Is when we moved back to my cozy, memory filled home in Dallas, Texas. I'm sixteen now and I've grown out of my dorky ways. I am a new and improved Payton Rae Tallan and no one will have the chance to ruin my life ever again.
After the finishing touch on my make up, I smoothed out my shirt and jogged down the steps when I heard the doorbell ring.
I swung the door open and it revealed my best friend, Carly. Her black curly hair grew much longer and her blue eyes tended to stand out more than they used to. Her hour glass figure said that she jogged daily, and her red lipstick was light and beautiful.
