She looked through the branches of the bush and smiled happily. They didn’t have a clue they were heading straight into a trap. None of them ever had, until the moment it was too late to do anything about it. She had seen the posters in the town nearby. The posters announcing an official threat to their kingdom. She ignored the urge to chuckle; they had no idea why all of their knights disappeared, nor did they know who was posing the threat. It was really funny.
She had no time to look at them any longer. The trap was closing behind them. Now she had to get two new guestrooms ready. Light as a feather, she jumped to her feet and ran off to her tunnel. She loved her tunnel. It made it possible for her to look outside, without being seen. She took the torch she had lit before she went outside and ran back to the great hall. There were no other sounds beside the ones she made. Sometimes that made her sad, thinking of all the noises she used to hear here. But now it made her happy. It was the silence of a promise, a promise for new noises. And those noises were about to arrive.
She climbed up to the first floor, ignoring the gaps in the floor, preparing everything for the show. They were going to love it. She giggled, then looked around, still smiling, as though to check if someone had heard her. When everything was ready, she sat down in her seat and waited. Waited for her new guests to arrive.
