I've been looking after Emil for months now, maybe even a year, and honestly it feels more like I'm a friend to him that someone enslaved by vikings and forced to do this.
In all honesty my time here's been quite surprising, while I rarely leave Lukas' long house, when I do the village doesn't seem like the home of the monsters I'd been told the vikings were. In fact it was remarkably similar to my own home. Or how it had been.
On that topic while I've grown closer to Emil, I still resent his brother, who as far as I'm concerned, is responsible for destroying my life. Though through seeing how he treats Emil, I think I'm on the verge of forgiving him, but I don't think that's the only reason.
Speaking of Lukas, he's meant to be returning today, which will be a relief, since Emil has been crying about monsters for the last few hours, this in itself isn't unusual, I just can't get him to stop this time.

The wind howled outside, the drafts causing the fire in the center of the home to flicker. Emil had fallen asleep a little while ago, curled up with his head in my lap, since it was too cold to sleep any further from the fire tonight.
I must have drifted off at some point, since I was woken by a sudden blast of wind as the door was opened. The onslaught of cold was cut off when the entrance was shut again, but it had been enough the extinguish the fire, leaving me shivering. Looking up I saw Lukas standing by the doorway, leaning against the wall and panting heavily, making me realize two things, one was I was glad I was inside, and two was the the fire was out.
I made to remove Emil from my lap, so I could relight our source of warmth, but Lukas shook his head, and proceeded to go about the task himself.
Soon small flames liked up against the rocks, consuming the wood hungrily, but it would still take a while for the warmth to return.
