What comes to your mind when you think about a Mongol. A brutal, swarthy, person with a humorous moustache, wearing fur, eating meat directly from the bone and saying bar bar bar bar bar bar bar.....
A perfect definition of a stereotypical Mongol. But if you read the modern texts you would see a completely different picture of a Mongol mainly for the following reason...
It emphasizes on the speed and success if their conquest. How they conquered more land in 25 years than the Romans did in 400. How they controlled more than 11 million contiguous square miles and created nations like Russia and Korea
All this started with one guy.........The Great Khan.

Kahn's wife was kidnapped(this was common among the mongols). On rescuing her he proved his unparallel military skills which made him the leader of his tribe. But to conquer the whole world Khan needed the whole Mongol confederation to unite. For which he had to fight a civil war which he won. Apart from that the 2 other things which helped him to reach heights were
One, he promoted people based on merit rather than family positions
And two, he bought people of lower classes into his own tribe while dispossessing the leader of the conquered clan. This made the poor love him,the rich hated him but it didn't matter anymore cause they were no longer rich

After overcoming all these internal disputes in 1206 he was declared the Great Khan-the leader of the Mongols.

After uniting the Mongols he went on conquering lands at a rapid speed. By the time he died in his sleep in 1227,his empire stretched from Mongolia to the Caspian sea

It is said that some people believed Chenghis Khan to be divine(which he didn't think he was). I think its true cause its not possible for a man to built the largest empire the world had seen. I am not trying to cover the brutality the Mongols or Chenghis Khan had but I leave you'll with one question...which ruler in history said that he didn't want to expand his empire, which soldier wasn't brutal in the battlefield..?
