Kevin sat on the overstuffed green felt couch in his family's living room, his feet kicked up on the stout coffee table that sat in front of him. The day was warm, the season of summer coming to end and the wisps of Autumn coming in the form of bursts of red and orange across the trees visible outside through the window on the far wall.
The T.V. was playing some generic kids show, with a rainbow of colours flashing across the screen accompanied by loud noises and high-pitched voices. A loud bang brought him out of his daze of thought, causing him to turn around to see his sister, Gracia, throwing her bag on the ground and rushing into the room.
"Switch to the news channel or something Kev," She panted out, clearly out of breath from the long walk up to their 15th floor apartment, "No more of this brain melting cartoon stuff."
Kevin grabbed the remote off the floor with a sigh, before handing it to Gracia, letting her quickly change the channel to the news. As the channel changed and the small channel number faded from the top corner of the screen, they were left with a single woman sitting at a desk wearing a generic Gray suit top, and a white button down under it. She had her long blonde hair tied up behind her head, leaving her face and neck clear. She sat with a straight back and looked straight into the camera, her eyes a clear shining blue.
"Reports are coming in from military representatives that a fatal error has occurred with the transport of an undisclosed highly volatile substance across the Atlantic, resulting in a small amount of the undisclosed substance being leaked into the local ecosystem. Our Ecologists believe that the problem is not going to affect anyone here on the East Coast and that the issue is sure to be resolved soon." The Reporter finished, as she grabbed her notes off the desk and organized them, the sound of the paper bouncing on the desk the last noise to come across before the advertisements rolled in."See, it's just more useless information Gracie," Kevin said, his voice leadened with annoyance. His sister threw him a sideways glance and stood up, walking off to her room.
"Food is in the fridge, don't wake me up. I work the morning shift tomorrow," She yelled back as she made her way to the hallway that led off the living room that Kevin sat in, her bare feet giving off a faint slapping noise as they collided with the barren white tile floors. The rest of the night went on without much trouble, Kevin eventually eating what was left of the near frozen beans and steak in the fridge from the night before, and then deciding to head to bed after finishing the leftovers.
** This is an attempt at the first chapter, and I decided to try writing in the third person. I'm not sure what I think about it, or if I should switch back to first person like the other story... Comment what you think! **
