5 Months Later
The two twins once again stood before the Lord of the West. This time no surprise was throughout the room at their appearance, for it was known that that their Lord has summoned the two on multiple occasions to do odd jobs that would further aid the West in their battle.
Today was the first time in the 5 months since their meeting that the Lord of the West and everyone who was involved in the war had gathered together with the twins
Many additions had been made to the war effort, and although the new additions had heard of the humans, they never interacted with them. As such, many of them voiced their displeasure at the use of humans in their war. Although, displeasure was not the only effort being made in the war room. There were some who encouraged their use.
One of the many voices for the twins is the the eldest prince.
"They will be unexpected. Youkai are not known to work well with humans and especially at a time of war when the truces called are being strained. This Sesshomaru believes that the best option is to use all resources available to us while we have them so as to not drag this war on and suffer more loss then needed."
Many of the people nodded in agreement while the two figures stood, staring at the Lord and his children. One face with a slight smile, the other with a frown. Even with the voice of the prince, many did not believe they should trust the twins. Some stopped using the human defense. Instead heading towards the defense that they work for the highest bidder.
This continuous argument wasn't coming to a consensus. Inutaisho, eventually, tired of the argument decided to end it, once and for all.
"Silence!" The room quieted as the voice of their lord floated over them, demanding attention. "Many of you here are trusted advisers of mine. Very reliable due to your dedication to the West. And every demon in this room understands the meaning of a trump card in a battle. Correct?" He paused briefly allowing the many demons to mull over her words before continuing.
"Sesshomaru's prowess on the battle field is well known, as is many, if not all, of the warriors in this room. We don't have a trump card. Our skills are known. As such, we will utilize their skills in this war, as we have done for the past 5 months. If you have any complaints, you may challenge me. However, if we did not have their recon information, this meeting would not be possible."
His powerful voice demanded silence during the short speech and continued to receive it for a few minutes after it concluded.
The subjects of the debate, remained silent throughout the entire argument. Sasuke's raven head tilted to the side watching his sister as she watched the exchange amusingly. Her playful eyes met his and he heard her say, "Check~."
He briefly nodded his head then raised his head to look at the lord of the lands. "May I speak?" His voice resounded loudly through the silent hall, followed by many gasps at his daring action.
He received a brief nod and, "You may." from Inutaisho.
"Thank you, mi'lord." He bowed slightly and turned to address the rest of the demons. "We do work for the highest bidder, this is true. Currently, your lord offers us something more precious than money however, and we must do our part to receive it. I will not inform you of what it is because it has none of your concern. But know this, what he offers us, we are willing to lay down our lives for so your worry of someone outbidding your lord is unfounded. We are also not here to debate our uses in combat, rather to receive our next assignment." His voice demanded almost as much authority while he spoke as Inutaisho's did, even with the pitch of a child.
The room was a pin-drop silent at the news. Arguments for both sides ceased, one in victory and the other in defeat as it was made clear that they would remain employed by the Lord of the West. Everyone's eyes shifted from the twin to their collective lord.
"Ah yes. This is correct. They were summoned here to receive their latest mission. Under normal circumstances, I would have given them their assignment secretly however, the nature of this mission requires the utmost participation from everyone in this room." Inu no Taisho paused while everyone took a bated breath, trying to guess what mission could be important enough to involve the entire war council. "They will be infiltrating the enemy base as sell swords."
Before he could say another word, loud opposition began from all parties.
"They could sell us out!"
"What if they turn traitors?!"
"What if they decide to play both sides?!"
Inu no Taisho raised his hand for silence among the room and slowly, it became silent. "I believe we just answered that about why they will not abandon us or turn traitors. The ultimate goal is to provide false information to the camp in order to hinder it and before they are able to figure out that the leads and information they have on our movements are false, Sasuke and Kagome will be able to destroy part of their base and escape."
"However, In order for this plan to be executed, we need rumors. We need stories. As of right now, they are our trump card because they are unknown. We need to make them known. Have the opposition seek them out to employ their services. Reveal we used them for a few successful attacks. This will make them all the more desirable." The room was silent for a moment then murmers broke out among the generals.
"Mi'lord, will that not make the other lands seek them to kill them?" One of the generals voiced their question louder than the rest.
"Mi'lord, if I may?" Sasuke, who had been silent through the explanation until now, asked. At the slightest inclination of Inu no Taisho's head, Sasuke continued. "It is possible they will seek to kill us. However, it is not so easy for us to die as a normal human. They will attempt and they will fail and they will attempt several times more. However, after continuous fails, they will pay us to work for them. We have no intention of betraying Inu no Taisho, whether you choose to be suspicious of us or not. Kagome determined this to be the best course of action. That is all."
Reluctance was still prominent in the hall, no one wanting to leave the balance of the war to the hands of two human children.
A voice rose from the crowd in curiousity, "What do you mean you are harder to kill than a normal human? Are you not a human? No amount of training could keep just the two of you safe if they were to send an army to kill you." Many eyes turned to the speaker before turning back to the twins.Their blue eyes darted between each other before looking at Inutaisho, also peering at them intensely curious golden eyes trained on them just as the rest of the room as it once again fell into a silence, awaiting the answer.
Kagome grabbed Sasuke's shoulder to get his attention then shook her head slightly. Sighing softly, Sasuke says, "They will underestimate us because we are human. Even if the rumors say we lead many successful missions, their downfall will be their pride. If it was you on the opposite side, would you spare an army of troops for two human children that have successfully lead a couple of operations? There is no warlord that mad. Not even humans would. So for what reason is there to worry about this? What matters is if we can complete the mission. We can. We will." He looked among the crowd, then back to Inutaisho and his son. "We will achieve a perfect victory, mi'lord. We just need the cooperation of everyone here. Do we have that?"
The silence following was not welcomed, instead it was rather tense. For a war room, the silence occurring on this day was plenty disturbing. Seemingly dragging on for hours, but rather was only seconds. Inutaisho's piercing gaze left the twins and fell back upon his subjects.
"Well?" This single word broke the silence and cheers erupted around the room.
Confirmations that the twins would receive the help the needed.Cheers for the victory that had yet to be achieved.
Cheers for what the future held.
