The life of Dante

Chapter 3

The next morning Dante is awoken to the sound of the cabinets opening and closing. He cracks open one eye to find Yumi going through the cabinets for something to eat. She mutters, "No wonder he didn't get any breakfast yesterday, there's nothing in the place to eat besides that pizza over there." Dante closes his eyes trying to fall back asleep only to be interrupted by a poke on the nose. Cracking open his eye again he sees Yumi looking at him with a slightly amused look. He smiles a little, "Yes Yumi." She points in the kitchen, "Where's all the food?" Looking a little amused by this Dante replies, "I just arrived yesterday, didn't get a chance to go buy any." Laughing she pulls him out of the chair, "Then come on lets go get some food." Reluctantly Dante gets up out of the chair and grabs his coat from the couch where Yumi left it, "Alright let me just get my keys and we'll go." Grabbing his keys from by the door Dante opens the door allowing Yumi out first after checking out the area around him for anything out of the ordinary. Locking the door behind them Dante unlocks the car and holds the door open for Yumi to get in, shutting the door behind her, he walks around to the other side and gets in the driver side. Starting the car, he backs out and drives to the store in town. As he pulls in he notices a car following them, noting what the car looks like he gets out helping Yumi out while watching the car as it drives by. Seeing it leave Dante walks into the store with Yumi looking around as she grabs food to take back to the apartment. After they pay for the food they go back out to the car. On the way to the car Dante looks around for the one car that had followed them on the way there, not seeing it he rights it off as coincidence but keeps a watch. After helping Yumi get the groceries into the car they get in and leave. Halfway to the school at an intersection the car that had followed them earlier comes out of nowhere speeding towards them, Dante seeing it out of the corner of his eye throws an arm over Yumi just as the car impacts on the driver side slamming the car into a tree. Yumi still alive and just barely awake crawls from the car pulling Dante out with her. Dante jerks a little getting up, "Look what they've done to my car!" Yumi is silent staring at Dante, who has a tree branch shoved through his chest, "Dante??" She is scared that he is moments away from dying. Dante looks at Yumi who points to his chest, looking down he notices the branch. "What this, this is nothing." Reaching and grabbing the branch, he pulls it out, the branch making a sucking sound as it leaves his chest. Yumi notices that as the stick leaves getting smaller his chest is already healed around it. Throwing the branch aside, Dante walks over to the other car as three people get out and walk towards Yumi. Stepping in there way Dante blocks their advance, "Sorry fellas this ones with me, you want an audience you're going to have to go through me." As he finishes saying this one pulls a knife, stabbing Dante in the side, then attempts to go around him as Dante pulls Ivory and shoots the guy in the back of the head. Laughing as he pulls the knife out Dante points it at the other two, who have drawn short swords, "Looks like someone wants to play with fire, I got to warn you, you're about to get burned." He makes a come at me gesture and the two guys run at Dante as he easily throws the knife into ones skull and shoots the other guy in the leg. As the guy falls Dante has drawn Rebellion and already impaled the guy through the chest. The guy who had the knife gets up grabbing Yumi from behind while Dante was distracted. Finishing off the one guy Dante turns around grinning wickedly, "So another attack, you're making a mistake if you think you can get to her while I'm here." The guy pulls out another knife holding it to her neck, "I wouldn't move Devil Hunter, I wouldn't want to hurt this pretty girl before it's time." Dante grins and winks at Yumi who is terrified but trusts Dante. Holding up his hands, "Ok good sir you will not see me move at all." The guy looks at Dante confused just before Rebellion slices through his arm making him drop Yumi, Dante has already reached the guy and has torn him apart. Coming over to Yumi he helps her up, "Come on let's get outta here." Pulling out his phone he makes a call and shortly after another car pulls up. Shaking the man's hand he helps Yumi into the car as another pulls in and starts cleaning up the scene. Driving off he checks Yumi, who is shivering, over for any harm. Seeing her unharmed other than a few scratches he relaxes focusing on the road. Getting back to the apartment he gets out looking around and does around to the side of the car opening the door and picking Yumi up. Yumi shies away at first forgetting who he is, Dante keeps hold of her as she realizes who he is she immediately curls up. Kicking the door closed Dante goes to the apartment door and unlocks it, opening the door slowly he cautiously enters the apartment listening for any signs of someone being in there. Sensing no one he sits on the couch holding Yumi as she clings to him. Not knowing what to do he just holds her comfortingly. Slowly she stops shivering and looks up at Dante finding him watching her. He asks her, "Are you alright Yumi?" She nods still in shock over what just happened. Sighing Dante sets her down and goes to the kitchen grabbing a glass of water and bringing it to her, "Here you need to get some water into you." She takes it her hand shaking noticeably. Slowly she takes a drink spilling some of her drink. Laughing softly Dante grabs a towel and gives it to her, "Here you go, you are going to want to dry off." Walking back into the kitchen he picks up the phone calling the store to have the groceries they picked up delivered to the house, then hanging up the phone he goes and sits back down on the couch. Yumi scoots closer to him resting her head on his shoulder and falls asleep. Sighing Dante picks up the TV remote and turns on the TV. Flipping through the channels Dante settles on a gun customization show. Not really paying attention to it Dante looks down on Yumi who is fast asleep. "Poor girl you have been through more than most people experience in a lifetime." Late into the night Dante gets up slowly, trying his best to not wake Yumi, and steps outside for a quick look around.
