First Day

I stood there at the end of the road in my new outfit with my brother. I was wearing skinny jeans and black boots with a belt on my waist along with a pink stomach crop top with a black tank top underneath. There was lettering on the shirt in the shape of a heart that was all in French. It was a Wednesday morning in our small town of Augusta, five thirty to be exact. It was freshman orientation day and seventh graders orientation. We go to Cony Middle School/High School, but if you look it up it just comes up as Cony High School. Logic. The bus finally came to the end of the road and me and my brother, Cameron, got on. We both sat in the front, one right behind the other. He was in jeans and a t-shirt and his new favorite DC’s. First day of High School for me, Megan Tyler, and I’m in a new place. This day just has wrong written all over it, but with my luck I might be able to get a couple people to talk to me. Hopefully guys because girls will just be girls and I really don’t want to have to deal with that especially at five thirty-five in the morning. We had about five stops on the way to school this morning. I was wondering if more people were going to be on the next day when all grades were going to school.

We finally pulled up in front of the school where the drop off area was. The school was huge. And there was a really weird statue of a ram in the front of the building so I’m just guessing that would be the school mascot, otherwise that would just be really freaking weird. For a second before walking into the school I stood at the front doors and just stared at all the people in there. They were all moving around, running, jumping, screaming being excited about seeing each other again since last year and at this point I was just standing there saying in my head, “I just got here and I already hate being the new kid.” I didn’t think I was going to be accepted into anything. Cliques, Groups, Sports. Not even in class towards the teacher. This state is just one of those states that doesn’t allow outsiders and here I am. A city girl from Seattle into little town, Augusta. I finally took a deep breath, let it out and walked in with my brother. My brother is a seventh grader though so he kind of just trailed off to his football buddies, I tried finding the soccer girls, but I didn’t see any of them.

I walked into the school and all the freshmen were being called into the auditorium for a, what they call, “Class” meeting. Um like please. That was a “how many of you little fuckers do we have to deal with this year” meeting. Either way, all the freshmen ended up in the same place and there actually wasn’t that many of us. The “meeting” was basically just the freshmen teachers explaining to us what are eighth grade teachers told us to scare the crap out of us for high school. And then something about consequences and rules and cell phones. Speaking of which, lets’ check mine! I took out my cell phone and tried texting my dad. I wanted to go home. It didn’t feel right being here. I was nothing like the other girls, but that was okay with me because I liked being the non average girl in the crowd anyways. My dad told me I had to stay. I was mad at him for quite a while.

After the assembly we all were directed to our homerooms. I had Mr. Foye who seemed pretty freaking awesome. I was in his homeroom with about twenty other kids. There was Alana, Jasmine, Jillian, Lenae, Ricky, Josh, Matt, Matt, Tyler, Aaron, Sam, Elissa and Jocelyn. We were there for about fifteen minutes and then we went to all our classes. Finally! Maybe I could talk to some people know, you know since these ones won’t talk to me. Maybe someone else is an outsider trying to get in. I was handed my schedule and pushed out the door. My schedule was listed like this; first-Science-Wachtl-214. Second-Study hall- 114. Third-Algebra-Poulin-  124. Fourth- English- Sylvester- 117. So I guess it was off to science with whatever this person was.
